House of Scientists. Central House of Scientists on Prechistenka Great Hall of the House of Scientists

  • 23.11.2021

The House of Scientists on Prechistenka is known to many generations of Muscovites. Concerts are constantly held here, lectures are given, famous people are invited. There are interest clubs for children and adults.

Arkharovsky house

The Central House of Scientists on Prechistenka was built on the territory, which in the old days was called Chertoly. The street got its name after 1658, when it became traditional to pass along it on Orthodox holidays, passing from the Kremlin to the Novodevichy Convent. The pilgrims went to the icon of the Mother of God of Smolensk revered by Muscovites - “The Most Pure”, from these events the name of the street came.

In the 16th century, these places belonged to the Bolshaya Konyushennaya Sloboda; according to the information of 1653, 190 households were assigned to it. The inhabitants of the settlement served as grooms, stirrups, the sovereign's cartwheelers and other working people, one way or another related to working with horses. During the time of Ivan the Terrible, guardsmen settled here, and the boyars and the nobility were expelled. At the beginning of the 19th century, the area was in the possession of the military governor of Moscow, I.P. Arkharov. He received the estate, mansion and a thousand serfs as a gift from Emperor Paul I.

The first mansion, on the site of the current House of Scientists, appeared in 1716 and was built by Colonel S.I. Sukin, it is not known exactly what his house looked like. Descriptions of stone chambers with a large garden date back to 1731. In 1792, the mansion became the property of I.P. Arkharov, who received the post of Governor-General of Moscow from the hands of Paul I himself. During the life of Ivan Arkharov, the house was considered one of the most hospitable in Moscow, but once overzealous in service, he was exiled into exile. He did not stay far from the capital for long and a year later he returned home, where he quietly lived out his life.

Mansion expansion

In 1812, during a fire, all the wooden parts of the mansion burned down. In 1818, the mansion was purchased by Prince Ivan Naryshkin, and after his death, his widow ran the estate. The princes were related to the royal family and many eminent Moscow families. In particular, Ivan Naryshkin was the uncle of N. Goncharova and at her wedding with A. S. Pushkin was the planted father from the side of the bride. Historians do not rule out that the poet visited the mansion on Prechistenskaya Street.

After 1844, the estate was divided, the southern part and the chambers went to S. A. Musin-Pushkin. Rumor has it that Gogol N.V. and the Decembrist M.M. Naryshkin visited him. In 1865, the house was purchased by a millionaire, a native of the townspeople, who earned capital in the production of canvas and fabrics - Ivan Konshin. He carried out the expansion, reconstruction, but the building was really remade after his death by the labors of his wife, Alexandra Ivanovna. She sold all the factories and continued to live in the house alone, surrounded by cats, a manager and a lawyer.

Before the revolution

At the beginning, at the request of Konshina, the house was rebuilt according to the project of the architect A. O Gunst. The mansion received a front entrance, a fountain began to work in the garden. An interesting innovation was a two-storey semi-rotunda, which housed a winter garden with an atrium and a skylight. The first and second floors were identical in area - about 800 square meters. On the first level there were 15 rooms, and on the second level there were luxurious ceremonial halls and apartments of the hostess.

The technical equipment of the mansion was one of the best - plumbing and sewerage were installed, a system of exhaust vacuum cleaners was installed. Marble finishes were delivered from Italy, plumbing was ordered from England. Konshina died in 1914, the mansion was inherited by the nephew's wife, and then to her children. At the insistence of the guardian of the minor heirs, the house was sold for 400 rubles to adviser A.I. Putilov. In 1917 the house was nationalized.

For science and creativity

The House of Scientists on Prechistenka was organized in 1922. Since its inception, it has become one of the places where an active cultural life was conducted - concerts were held, only here closed screenings of films were held that did not fall on the wide screens of the country, lectures were given, performances by famous artists were organized, meetings were held with writers and poets. The popularity of the place grew, the tasks were enlarged, and there was a need to expand the premises.

In the 1930s, the architects Vesnin brothers developed a project according to which a vestibule and a wardrobe were added to the old mansion on the first floor, a hall with a foyer appeared on the second, and a balcony with a hall and several technical rooms appeared on the third. The next reconstruction took place at the turn of the 1970-80s - changes were made to the location of the premises on the ground floor, as well as restoration work in the front suite, which is the historical part of the building.

At the present stage, the House of Scientists on Prechistenka is one of the centers of the cultural and scientific life of the capital. Andrey Demchenko is the owner of a baritone whose bright timbre is always remembered by listeners. For different pieces of music, there are different colors in this voice; during a tour of Germany, the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper called Demchenko a “deep bass” for Russian romances, and another newspaper, Bad Orber Zeitung, called the “Russian Pavarotti” for Neapolitan songs. In addition to a great voice, Andrey has another plus - acting, not without reason in his filmography - 15 roles. The press has repeatedly noted that each song or romance by Demchenko is not only sung, but also played by actors.

In the first part of the concert, you will plunge into the magical world of Russian romance, and in the second part you will be able to enjoy the nostalgic Soviet stage, in particular, songs from the repertoire of Muslim Magomayev.

Also like a house, at the gate of which Sharik from the "Heart of a Dog" sat and watched a citizen who left the house of "Centrokhoz".

The history of the house is rich. Already in 1716, the household was very large and belonged to Colonel Semyon Ivanovich Sukin. The first information about the stone chambers erected here dates back to 1731. They looked at the end of the alley, and the extended part at Prechistenka. Behind the house was a large garden.

In 1792, the estate was acquired by Ivan Petrovich Arkharov, a very outstanding personality, the younger brother of Nikolai Arkharov, the Moscow chief of police. Under Paul I, both brothers were promoted to generals of infantry. On the day of Paul's coronation, Ivan received 1,000 souls and was appointed commander of the Moscow eight-battalion garrison, by that time already known as the Arkharovsky regiment. The elder was appointed to the post of St. Petersburg Governor-General, and the younger (with the strong assistance of the elder) in 1796 became the Moscow military governor. So both Russian capitals turned out to be "Arkharov's". Arkharov's house on Prechistenka was considered one of the most pleasant and hospitable in Moscow. The owner cordially welcomed the guests, and embraced the most beloved ones with the words: “What can I treat my dear guest to? Just give me an order, and I will fry any of my daughters for you!”, which, however, have already become a byword. The order that the brothers established in the capitals also had a negative, unsightly side. Arkharovtsy caught not only thieves, they did not disdain the goodness of honest people. Therefore, this word in Russian does not have a positive meaning at all. The brothers' career ended anecdotally and unexpectedly. The elder was too clever in his desire to please. Having heard that the emperor liked the coloring of barriers in the Lithuanian provinces, he ordered the citizens of St. Petersburg to paint the fences and gates according to the model on the imperial behalf. This stupidity, and even carried out on his behalf, Pavel Arkharov did not forgive. And he exiled the brothers to the Tambov villages, from where they returned to Moscow already under Alexander and quietly lived out their lives.

During the fire of 1812, all the wooden buildings of the estate burned out, and the chambers were also damaged. Since 1829, the estate has belonged to Princess E. A. Naryshkina, the wife of the Privy Councilor, real chamberlain, senator, who was (by wife) N.N. Goncharova, wife A.S. Pushkin. Ivan Alexandrovich was the appointed father of the bride at the wedding with Pushkin, which took place on February 18, 1831. It is possible that the poet and his wife were at that time in the house on Prechistenka.

In 1844, the property was divided, the southern part with the chambers went to the captain, lieutenant of the fleet S.A. Musin-Pushkin. It is known that in 1851-1852 the Decembrist M.M. Naryshkin, N.V. visited him here. Gogol.

In 1865, the estate was acquired in the name of his wife Alexandra Ivanovna Konshina by a millionaire, a major industrialist Ivan Konshin, who belonged to an old family of Serpukhov townspeople, who produced linen and canvas in the 18th century. Alexandra Ivanovna somewhat expands and rebuilds the property, but real transformations await the site after the death of I.N. Konshin. His entire fortune, exceeding 10 million rubles, went to his wife, who liquidated her husband's industrial enterprise, selling the factory to his brothers, and began to live alone in her house. According to the memoirs of her contemporaries, she lived surrounded by an incredible number of cats, a certain Alexander Vasilyevich, an Old Believer, managed the house, and the lawyer Alexander Fedorovich Deryuzhinsky was in charge of all affairs.

In the period from 1901 to 1910, the property was rebuilt according to the project of the architect A.O. Gunst, who, instead of a kitchen from the side of the courtyard, attached a 2-storey volume of a winter garden in the form of a semi-rotunda, at the same time the main entrance to the estate from the side of the street with an alley was decorated, and a fountain appeared in the garden overlooking Prechistenka. The restructuring was completed with the erection of a stone fence and front gates with lions on pylons. The interior of the winter garden was made in the neoclassical style, which became widespread at the beginning of the 20th century. The reception of the atrium was used - a patio, which ended with a light lantern. The interior decoration used natural marble brought from Italy.

There were 15 rooms on the first and second floors. On the second floor there were front rooms, as well as hostess's rooms, the area of \u200b\u200beach floor was about 800 square meters. The house had plumbing, sewerage, a special system of exhaust vacuum cleaners, plumbing for the bathroom was brought from England, there was a special device for heating sheets, which were turned into after water procedures.

In September 1914, A. I. Konshina died, the house passed to the wife of her nephew, and then to her daughters and their minor sons. In 1916, the guardian of the minor heirs A.I. Konshina sold the household for 400 thousand rubles to the real state councilor A.I. Putilov, who lost it immediately after the revolution.

Since 1922, the estate has housed the House of Scientists, which in Soviet times played a significant role in the cultural life of the capital: private screenings of films that were not shown on a wide screen, concerts were often held here, meetings with writers and poets were organized, and scientific lectures were given. The need for new premises to serve a large number of people was the reason for the construction of a new hall and vestibule, which was carried out in the 30s according to the project of architects. On the first floor of the building there is a vestibule and a cloakroom, on the second - a hall and a foyer, and on the third - a hall with a balcony and a number of technical rooms.

In 1970-80s, a part of the premises was reconstructed in the House of Scientists. The changes affected the first floor of the house. At the same time, a project was developed and the restoration of the front rooms of the enfilade was carried out.

The former winter garden now houses a restaurant, and concerts are held in the house itself, which you can attend.
