The demand for handmade foaming products is growing every day. Soap has gained popularity not only because it looks beautiful and unusual: this factor was also influenced by the fact that such products do not contain chemicals that can harm the skin.

Soap making at home for beginners - recipes

To make soap with your own hands, you don’t have to own a soap factory, because you can make personal hygiene products at home. Soap making for beginners involves several ways to create decorative products; they differ in the type of the main component - the base, into which you can then add natural dyes, scrubs or essential oils.

What are they made from?

The raw materials for obtaining the soap base can be animal and vegetable fats or fat substitutes: rosin, tall oil, synthetic fatty acids, naphthenic acids. Before making soap, you need to know that the process is based on the saponification reaction. This means that under the influence of alkalis, hydrolysis of fatty acid esters with glycerol occurs, and as a result, salts of alkali metals and fatty acids, trihydric alcohol, are formed.

What you need for soap making

After looking at all kinds of soap recipes and choosing the most suitable one from them, check whether you have all the necessary ingredients and equipment prepared:

  • water (or other liquid required by the recipe);
  • kitchen scales;
  • two mixing dishes;
  • hand and eye protection;
  • oil, fat;
  • caustic water;
  • two thermometers;
  • spoons for mixing and measuring;
  • handmade soap molds;
  • beaker;
  • blender (if possible);
  • disposable towels.

How to cook at home

There are several ways to brew your own personal care product:

  1. Use a ready-made soap base (some recipes even recommend using remnants of old soap). The component is melted, ingredients are added to it according to the recipe, then new pieces are formed.
  2. Rub with regular baby soap. Milk and water are added to the crushed mass, everything is melted together in the microwave (or a water bath is built), combined with the components indicated in the recipe and poured into molds.
  3. Creation from scratch, i.e. without a foundation. The method implies that you can make your own natural handmade soap from glycerin, oils, alkali and other additives.

Liquid soap at home

The production of hygienic soap is a process whose technology must be followed. So, to cook it with your own hands, you need to prepare:

  • a saucepan that is not used for culinary purposes;
  • glycerin – 1 tbsp. l.;
  • dyes (optional);
  • essential oils (1 or 2 types) – 3-4 drops each;
  • soap base – 1 pc.;
  • herbs (mint, chamomile, rose petals).

To make homemade soap, you need to carry out the following manipulations:

  1. Prepare herbal decoctions: pour the mixture with 10 tablespoons of filtered water, boil the liquid for 2 minutes, leave for 30 minutes. Strain the infusion, add 10 glasses of water.
  2. Grate a bar of baby soap until you end up with 1 cup of shavings. It is important to take a product without additives or other fillers.
  3. Pour the broth into a saucepan and add the soap base there. Do not turn off the heat until the chips dissolve; it is important not to overcook the mass, otherwise it will not have the desired density. Cool the mixture, remove the foam, pour in glycerin.
  4. Add essential oil to the solution (two types are possible). If you want the product to be colored, then a natural dye must be added at this stage.
  5. Pour the prepared homemade liquid into a container with a dispenser.

From remnants

The step-by-step master class shows that the process of turning old remnants into a new original product (as in the photo) is not too labor-intensive. Knowing how to cook it from leftovers, you can create a natural product with an unusual airy texture. For preparation you will need:

  • titanium dioxide diluted with glycerin (white dye);
  • essential vanilla and rapeseed oil – 6 drops each;
  • Santal – 3 drops;
  • alcohol;
  • transparent base – 120 g;
  • soap remnants – 120 g.

Making a product like the one in the photo involves using remnants of chocolate and different colors. Find out how to make such an original product:

  1. Separate the remnants. Grate some of the chocolate color. Mix the shavings with half the base, cut into small cubes.
  2. Melt the workpiece by placing it in a water bath and covering the container with cling film.
  3. Grease the silicone mold with rapeseed oil.
  4. Pour the melted base into a glass, add vanilla oil and 0.5 tsp. rapeseed Beat the contents into foam using a mixer, then pour into the mold.
  5. Melt the colored soaps with the remaining base in the same way. Pour the mixture too, mix with white dye, 3 drops of santal, 0.5 tsp. rapeseed oil. Beat until foamy.
  6. Sprinkle the already hardened first layer with alcohol and pour the whipped foam on top. You can decorate with small shavings.
  7. After all layers have hardened, remove the block from the tray and cut it.

Liquid household

Numerous positive reviews confirm that a homemade gel based on a solid piece of laundry soap is an excellent option for washing even in a machine. To make it you will need:

  • soda ash – 50 g;
  • essential oil – 4 drops;
  • grated soap mass - 0.5 tbsp.;
  • water – 1 l.

The process of preparing homemade gel for washing things from any material is not at all complicated:

  1. Send the soap shavings into the boiling water, without stopping stirring, wait until the product dissolves.
  2. Add baking soda and mix the ingredients until a pearlescent jelly is formed.
  3. Cool the mixture and add a little essential oil.

Here is a description of the process for those who are interested in the topic of how laundry soap is made using the direct method:

  1. Vegetable and animal fats are used as the basis.
  2. The components are boiled in special digesters, then soda is added to them. The result is a viscous liquid - soap glue, consisting of glycerin and soap mass.
  3. After hardening, it is cut and labeled. The numbers 40-70% indicate how many fatty acids are contained in one bar.

There is also an indirect method, which consists in treating the resulting adhesive soap with electrolytes. This is done using a solution of caustic alkali and sodium chloride. The consequence of the influence of these components is that the liquid stratifies. The top layer - the soap core - contains about 60% fatty acids, and the bottom is an electrolyte solution with glycerin.

Making soap from scratch at home

Beginners who are interested in how to make soap without a soap base are recommended to start practicing with the cold method. The recipe data must be entered into the calculator - this way you can find out the exact ratio of alkali and water. So, to do this at home, you need:

  • linseed oil – 10%;
  • coconut and palm oils – 20% each;
  • overfat – 7%;
  • olive oil – 50%.

It is worth noting that superfat is added to protect human skin, and the oils in the composition react with alkali to form soap. How to make a homemade product? Do everything step by step:

  1. Measure out all the ingredients (without water and lye) by combining them in a saucepan. Melt at 50 degrees.
  2. Place the required amount of lye in ice.
  3. Make sure that the temperature of the alkali solution becomes the same as the temperature of the oils.
  4. Using a sieve, pour the lye into the oil liquid, then beat the mixture with a blender until it becomes like cream.
  5. Pour the liquid into the mold. You can make a beautiful inscription or draw a pattern. Once the product has hardened, it is ready for use.

Why do we make soap at home?

Almost everyone who has ever tried to make soap on their own immediately fell in love with this interesting activity. Some people think that making scented soap at home is quite difficult, but in practice it is simple. Why are so many people involved in soap making? This is an environmentally friendly product that even your children can use without fear. It does not contain preservatives or dangerous chemical components, and it can be made specifically for your skin type.

This soap is unique - it is not difficult to make it in different colors, shapes, smells, contents and usefulness. It may consist of: herbal decoctions, citrus zest, oatmeal, natural coffee, algae, loofah, chocolate, base and essential oils. Soap is a necessity for daily hygiene. It is important to emphasize that the effectiveness and usefulness of homemade soap will be justified because you made it yourself.

If you ask domesticated soap makers why you need this, most of them will answer: “We make soap at home because, like our food, it contains only natural, high-quality ingredients.” There are still many reasons to cook it at least once, since it is a creative process that allows your imagination to run wild a little and keeps you from getting bored on cold winter evenings. Each such product will be a real work of art that you will be proud of. Therefore, your problem of giving something so useful and unusual to your friends once again will immediately disappear. You can also cook it at home, but it’s more difficult with the ingredients.

Making soap at home - preparation technology

To make scented homemade soap you will need:

1. Soap base. It can be prepared from baby soap or a special transparent (white) soap base. The base can be purchased in the online store. The special soap base, unlike baby soap, is odorless, but with the help of transparent bases you can make a real work of art in various colors. Beginners are recommended to practice on regular baby soap;

2. Base oil. It can be purchased at any pharmacy, it all depends on your tastes and preferences, there are many options: cherry kernel oil, apricot, almond, wheat germ, avocado, peach, olive, etc.;

3. Essential oil. You must make this choice by determining the characteristics of your skin. For example, a little tea tree is for oily and problem skin. Orange works well in cellulite areas. Ylang-ylang, geranium, lavender - purchased for rejuvenation, getting rid of wrinkles, etc.;

4. Dyes. If you decide to buy soap base in an online store, you can also take special dyes. But in principle, you can use regular food coloring. Vegetable or fruit juices and chocolate can also add color to soap;

5. Additives. If we already make soap at home and there is an opportunity to enrich it with various useful additives, then it would be a sin not to take advantage of it. This may include: glycerin, herbal infusions, cream, honey, etc. To give the soap a “scrub” effect, you can use: coffee, oatmeal, carefully ground walnut shells, etc.;

6. Dishes: for a water bath and styling molds for soap. You can buy molds, but whatever is on hand will do: pastry containers, children’s containers, small ceramic containers, whatever you see fit;

7. Alcohol. You will use it to lubricate the surface of the molds;

8. To dilute the soap base: milk (warm), decoction or water;

9. Knife. To shape the finished soap (if needed).

Detailed technology for making soap at home

  • Step one. Grate the baby soap so it melts faster. Place it in a water bath, make sure it doesn’t boil (otherwise there will be bubbles in the soap) and stir until completely dissolved (30 minutes). While the base is melting, you need to gradually add milk (cream) until the consistency becomes creamy. You can add water or broth instead of milk. But caution is necessary here, as this may cause the soap to separate. You can use sugar instead of milk, water or cream. This will allow the soap to melt faster and better. If you don’t have the desire or ability to wait a long time, you can grate the soap, dilute it in warm water (but remember, you need a creamy mass) and leave it overnight. After this, all you have to do is heat the finished soap base.
  • Step two. When the base is completely melted, add 5 drops of essential oils, dye, glycerin (1 tsp). And then additives at your discretion, for example, coffee.
  • Step three. We pour the mixture into molds, having previously sprayed them with alcohol from a spray bottle; the surface of the soap should also be lightly sprinkled to prevent bubbles on its surface.
  • Step four. Leave the molds to cool in a cool place or refrigerator for 2-3 days. Since we make soap at home, we will have to be patient. Afterwards, you need to pull the soap out of the molds; to do this, lower them into hot water for a couple of minutes. Place the soap on a tray and take it out into the air to dry, this will take 5-7 days. Because of the water, it will dry out a little, so you can cut off the excess and at the same time trim something.

This way you will get a nice homemade, scented soap. And when you get the hang of it, you can experiment to your heart’s content, adding different textures, shapes, colors and smells to your masterpiece.

To prevent the first pancake from coming out lumpy, keep in mind a couple of nuances:

  1. Dyes. Vegetable dyes are unpredictable, so food dyes are more recommended. The standard dose should be as follows: for 120 g of soap base, a teaspoon of dye. But you can do as you see fit, you may need darker, deeper colors.
  2. Scrubbing particles. There are many options for how best to do this: add to a hot soap composition and stir well, pour on the bottom of the molds, sprinkle on top, etc. It is important to remember that the scrubbing particles must be well ground into powder so as not to scratch the skin. This soap will stain slightly, but it will wash off quickly.
  3. Dry herbs. All pharmaceutical herbs can be safely added to your soap, but before that, grind them into powder. It is advisable to add no more than one tablespoon. Can be prepared with herbs
  4. Fruit juices. You can always replace water with freshly squeezed juice; first, try adding carrot juice, it will give it a delicate yellow color and a pleasant smell.
  5. Clay. Before mixing it with the soap mixture, it is necessary to bring the clay to a mushy state. In a 1:1 ratio it will give a beautiful shade and light foam.

No matter how we make soap at home, some people can do it right away, while others need a little more practice. The main thing is that this gives us the opportunity to make the various fantasies of our children, loved ones and relatives come true. After all, it’s nice to make soap of various colors, shades, in the shape of various animals, hearts (for Valentine’s Day), cakes (for those with a sweet tooth). Such sweet care will always be noticed and touched to the core. So don't be afraid to experiment, you're going in the right direction.

Soap from scratch is popular among soap makers. The recipe may be different, but the essence remains the same. This soap differs from the usual gels, lotions, and shampoos because it contains absolutely natural ingredients! This product does not dry or irritate the skin, does not cause rashes, redness, or peeling. But not every handmade soap will be “zero”, as soap makers call it.

Types of soap

Soap, which is made scented in the form of various figures from a soap base, can be classified as unnatural products. Since it is the basis of industrial production, where surfactants (surfactants), cheap oils, and foaming agents are added.

Despite the addition of aromatic natural ingredients, the soap still remains synthetic. It is most often used for gifts, since the preparation process is simple. Just melt the soap base and add oil.

Another thing is soap from scratch. The recipe does not contain harmful chemical additives, but includes natural ingredients (honey, essential or vegetable oils, herbal decoctions, chocolate, nuts, coffee). Such soap is obtained by saponification of vegetable fats with alkali to form glycerol and salts of fatty acids. Preparation of “nulevka” requires calculations of proportions, time, and experience. Beginners often make mistakes, since a properly created soap should be without alkali.

When there is no soap base or lye at hand, many novice soap makers resort to a simple but time-consuming method. Take baby soap (it is practically free of chemicals), plan it, melt it over a fire with water or herbal decoction in a water bath until smooth with frequent stirring. Then the mass is removed and oils are added. Based on application, soap can be divided into baby soap, laundry soap, and shampoo soap. Based on the manufacturing method, soap makers distinguish between hot and cold methods.

Where to start soap making?

Even simple soap recipes from scratch are not complete without special tools and materials. For soap making you will need the following equipment and ingredients:

  • Scales for measuring water or oils.
  • Scales for measuring alkali with an accuracy of hundredths of a gram.
  • Thermometer for measuring the temperature of liquids.
  • Immersion blender.
  • Disposable cups or other dry containers for lye.
  • Spoons for stirring.
  • A heat-resistant vessel where the alkali will dissolve.
  • Stainless steel, enamel or glass heat-resistant container for mixing soap.
  • Goggles, gloves, respirator, overalls.
  • Wooden or
  • Alkali sodium and potassium hydroxide (the first is used in making solid soap, the second is suitable for liquid soap).
  • Vegetable oils.
  • Soap calculator (used to check the proportions of all ingredients, especially lye).
  • Water, herbal infusions, milk, coffee, zest.

Please note that the container in which you make soap cannot be used for preparing or storing food.

Safety regulations

It is very dangerous for beginners to start making soap from scratch. The recipe requires safety in any preparation.

Homemade soap recipes from scratch

Zero soap is made using the hot and cold method. In the first version, it is cooked in the oven. In the second, the soap “reaches” in a water bath. In both cases, the soap needs to mature from several weeks to a year.

For beginners, it is better to start with the cold method. The recipe data should be entered into a calculator, which will give the exact ratio of water and alkali.

  • 7% superfat (SF or superfat).
  • 10% linseed oil.
  • 20% palm and coconut oil each.
  • 50% olive oil.

Superfat protects the skin, and oils react with alkali to form soap (from scratch). The recipe is as follows:

Marble soap from scratch

Soap making recipes involve 5 stages: boiling, mixing (or trace stage), drying, gel and storage stage. Therefore, after preparing the soap mass, proceed to the next step. You can divide the mass into two parts, paint with different pigments to get a two-color soap. Mix each part with a blender. Then add essential oils and fragrance. Combine different colored soap bases without mixing. Pour the mixture into the mold. To remove any bubbles, simply tap the pan on the counter and top up with base. Draw a pattern on top with a brush.

Next comes the gel stage, that is, the hardening stage. Almost any baby, household, toilet, or shampoo soap can be tested from scratch (we’ll look at the recipe below). Place the soap in a heated but turned off oven (40-50 degrees) or wrap it near a radiator for several hours, then dry it at room temperature for a day.

The last step is to cut the soap into pieces, put it in a box with holes, and leave it to “ripen” for several weeks. Only then can you take it out, wrap it as a gift, or start using it.

Making laundry soap

Soap makers, in addition to toilet products, make natural soaps from scratch. Recipes usually consist of inexpensive oils (corn, sunflower, palm, coconut). Consider one recipe for such soap:

  • 64.52% coconut oil;
  • 24.19% olive oil;
  • 11.29% castor oil;
  • 2% superfat;
  • 33% water;
  • 1% citric acid;
  • 103.93 grams of alkali;
  • 1 tsp soda (with a slide);
  • 10 ml each of lemon and peppermint essential oils.

The total weight of the oils is 620 grams. Melt all oils with superfat in a water bath. Dilute citric acid in a small amount of water. Next, prepare an alkaline solution from powder and water. After the alkali has completely dissolved, pour in the lemon solution and stir.

When the oils dissolve until smooth, remove and leave to cool to the same temperature as the alkaline solution. Mix both masses with a blender until a “trace” is formed, place in a preheated oven at 60 degrees for 2.5 hours.

Continuation of soap making

We continue to make laundry soap from scratch. Recipes, by the way, may allow the use of superfat not at the first stage of melting with oils in a water bath, but when rubbing it over the walls of the mold. In our case, we simply cover the molds with baking paper.

As soon as you take the soap out of the oven, you need to work quickly, as the mass hardens quickly. Add soda to it and beat with a mixer. Pour in essential oils, mix, place in mold. As soon as the soap has completely hardened, remove it from the mold, cut it into pieces, and use it immediately. This is the advantage of the hot manufacturing method.

This laundry soap smells good, copes well with limescale, and can be used to wash dishes and bathtubs before bathing children. And the best part is that after working with it you don’t feel any discomfort, flaking or dry skin.

Whether it is laundry, toilet or baby soap from scratch, the recipe requires clear calculations. Otherwise, if there is a large amount of water, the soap will quickly lather, if there is too much excess fat, the product will deteriorate, and if there is too much alkali or base oil, the soap base will not thicken.

Making shampoo soap

Soap makers also make shampoo soap from scratch. The recipe includes useful decoctions, oils, and hair supplements. Only the result is not liquid shampoo, but a bar of solid soap. This is why it may not be suitable for some people. Experiment with ingredients to create your own type of soap.

To prepare cleansing and strengthening shampoo soap, take:

  • 40% rapeseed oil;
  • 34% coconut oil;
  • 26% sunflower oil;
  • 1% citric acid;
  • 33% water;
  • 10 ml petitgrain EM;
  • 15 grams of laurel oil;
  • 76.48 grams of alkali;
  • 3% superfat for shape.

Oils are designed for a weight of 500 grams. The preparation process is similar to laundry soap, that is, the oils are melted and a lemon and alkaline solution are prepared separately. Pour the acid into the alkali, not hot, but at room temperature. Then add the mixture to the oils and beat with a blender until a trace forms.

Also place in a preheated oven for 2.5 hours. Add superfat and essential oils to the soap base, mix, and place in the mold. After a day, cut into pieces and leave for a couple of weeks to harden, although it is already ready for use.

Brief summary

If you want to have clean and well-groomed skin, then make soap from scratch. Recipes differ in ingredients and production method, but the process itself is repeated. A beginner should first study information about the interaction of oils with alkali and practice with a soap calculator.

Instructions

The process of making soap in production differs significantly from its preparation in production. At a minimum, such soap will lack most of the chemical components used in production. Today, many have become interested in this interesting activity; there are even special stores selling consumables for soap makers. If there is no such store in your city, you can easily make soap yourself and will be surprised to learn that almost everything you need to make it can be found at home.

You can solve various skin problems using homemade soap. In particular, if your skin is very flaky, add ground coffee to the soap and you will get an excellent scrub. Essential oils are perfect for preparing such a skin cleanser: tea tree oil will fight excess oil and acne, citrus oil will fight cellulite, and ylang-ylang oil is known for its ability to rejuvenate.

The effect of essential oils will be perfectly complemented by decoctions of medicinal herbs, bee products, cream, oatmeal, fruit puree, etc. Having bought baby soap or a special base in the store, you need to grate it and put it in a water bath. Now you can add any components to it, depending on what effect you want to achieve. Melted soap must be diluted with liquid. For this, use not plain water, but decoctions of medicinal herbs, milk, coffee, cocoa or freshly squeezed juice of fruits or vegetables.

To make your own soap, you need to add base oil to the resulting homogeneous mass. Sunflower is not suitable for these purposes; it is better to take olive, peach or almond. Then proceed to impart healing properties to the prepared product using the above-mentioned ground coffee, fruit puree, dried flowers, honey, oatmeal, ground nut shells, coconut flakes, vitamins E, group B, etc. Make sure that the mixture does not boil. Once everything is well mixed, remove from heat.

The hot mixture must be quickly poured into pre-prepared molds greased with vegetable oil. Sprinkle the soap with alcohol or vodka on top - this will prevent the formation of unsightly bubbles on the surface. The finished soap must be allowed to mature. Keep it in the refrigerator for 2 days. During this time, the hardness of this detergent and its effectiveness will increase significantly. Remember! If you used natural juices and purees during the cooking process, then such a product must be consumed first, otherwise it will spoil.

If you are in an interesting mood today and want something completely unusual, but at the same time useful and aesthetic, then you should try soap making. This is a completely unusual activity, it develops taste, smell, and indirectly even charm.

What are the advantages of this soap?

  • Handmade soap does not dry out the skin, it gently cares for it
  • The soap consists of environmentally friendly materials, and in general, you are always confident in its composition. Industrially produced soap has many chemical additives, which, of course, fulfill their hygienic role, but have a detrimental effect on our skin, causing it to age prematurely. :(
  • This is a very original gift and is especially suitable for gifting people “who already have everything.” Since soap is a consumable material, it can be given more than once. What you need to make soap at home

1. Baby soap for the base, preferably unscented - 2 pieces. Of course, there are also special transparent bases, but they are more expensive and you should start creating your first masterpieces from ordinary baby soap, which in practice is no worse. In general, it is easier to make soap from base, but baby soap is cheaper and allows you to understand whether you like soap making. 2. Oil for the base - 2 tablespoons. Absolutely any, for example, olive or almond 3. Essential oil - 2 drops. Used depending on skin needs. Gives the soap the chosen aroma. 4. Additives - to give your soap color or additional qualities. Additives can be: juices, glycerin, cocoa, coffee, honey, herbs, flowers and much more. 5. Liquid for diluting the base to the desired consistency. This can be a herbal decoction, warm milk or plain water. You will also need molds, you can buy beautiful silicone molds, you can use a cupcake maker, yogurt jars, children's sandbox molds. The most important condition: in order to get the soap out well, the neck of the mold must be wider than the base.

How to make soap at home

  1. You need to melt the base until smooth; to do this, cut it finely with a knife or tinder on a grater (borax can be used) and heat it in a water bath, but not more than 60 degrees! Attention, the soap should not boil - you need to heat it only until it melts, overheating will dry out the base greatly and you will no longer get good soap. You can also melt the soap base in the microwave. Here, in order not to overheat, you need to monitor the process every 20 seconds.
  2. If it doesn’t melt well (there are different types of soap), then dilute it with water (100 grams of soap - 200 grams of water), if it still doesn’t help, then add a teaspoon of sugar or honey. You need to melt until it reaches the consistency of sour cream.
  3. At this stage, when the soap is in a water bath, add all the lotions: base oil, dyes, dry ingredients.
  4. Remove from heat and add a couple of drops of essential oils. They are very volatile, so they are added at the very end.
  5. Mix quickly again and pour into molds. If it sets before you pour, reheat.
  6. We put the molds with soap in the refrigerator for 5 hours. Then we take it out of the refrigerator and let it dry. Soap made from baby soap usually dries for a day, then it can be taken out of the mold and used.

Advice: Once the soap has hardened, wrap it completely in plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out. Now you can come up with a more interesting package and give it to a friend. :)
