Timofey Kopylov: is there life after “The Voice.” TV For all of Vladimirskaya It turns out that you studied music already in adulthood

  • 22.06.2019

The Vladimir finalist of the show “The Voice” - frontman of the group “Record Orchestra” Timofey Kopylov - spoke about his impressions of participating in the project. " The minimum program was to pass blind auditions and maybe reach the quarterfinals" - second place in the largest music competition country came as a surprise even to Timofey himself. And this despite a very impressive stage experience: as a member of the Blackmailers Blues Band, in the Record Orchestra that replaced it, and even despite successful participation in the project “ Main stage"on the channel "Russia".

After the sixth “Voice”, the name of Timofey Kopylov became known throughout the country. Although he himself emphasizes that the “Record Orchestra” primarily participated in both the “Main Stage” and the show on Channel One. The “orchestra members” made most of the arrangements for the performances in “The Voice” themselves. Alexey Baryshev, one of the founders of the group, was always present on stage.

« Failed to show your original material"- complains Timofey Kopylov. But it was possible to “devise” from those songs with which the “Record Orchestra” is associated today (apparently, this means the “Lada Sedan” that brought all-Russian popularity).

- Plus, there was also a desire to get out of a certain comfort zone, which we somehow created for ourselves and our team did not go beyond it, did not grow, did not advance. And you need to periodically, as a creative person, or any person, give yourself some kind of a shake-up, set some tasks for yourself that you would never set for yourself at all. Doing something beyond the bounds. And in this regard, thanks to Leonid Nikolaevich for suggesting songs. Not all of them were typical for me and were received with a bang. But the bulk of the songs - I simply would not take on them due to the greatness of these songs,- said Timofey Kopylov.

At the blind auditions for the show “The Voice”, season 6, he sang the gypsy song “Shukaria”. The mentors were sure that a foreigner was performing on stage. As a result, only Leonid Agutin turned to Timofey and suggested to him: “Timofey, you will have to come to me. Unfortunately, no one else turned around. And it’s good that I did it.” However, in response, Kopylov admitted that he initially wanted to get into Agutin’s team. A Vokrug TV correspondent talked to Kopylov immediately after the finale of the 6th season of the show “The Voice” and asked about his mentor, friendship with other project participants and plans for the future.

– Did you expect that you would reach the final?

- No. Even during the blind auditions, I thought that if no one turned to me at the first verse, then my show “The Voice” would end. But the verse ended, the chorus began and Leonid Nikolaevich (Agutin. - Note ed.) turned around. God bless him.

– Did you manage to work closely with your mentor on the project?

– First of all, inspiration, as well as ideas about what songs to perform, came from Leonid Nikolaevich. I especially remember working on “Cuckoo”. My mentor and I made the arrangement. I did a verse and sent it to him, then a second, a third... It was very cool. The main advice that Leonid Nikolaevich gave was not to make mistakes. That's how you want it, understand it.

– Did you initially want to join his team?

– Yes, starting from the moment when I watched the second season of the show “The Voice” and decided to send an application to participate in the third. My first message was to space: Leonid Agutin. I only got into the sixth season. And when Agutin turned to me, I realized that the universe had heard me.

Were you nervous before each new stage?

I was worried that I would be kicked out of the project with a “badly performed” number. And if the number turns out great, let’s call it “Swan Song,” then it’s not a sin to fly out. There was no fear of losing. I wasn’t worried about the fact that I might fly out, but I was more worried about the number itself: whether it would work out or not. And then - as God willing.

Which participants do you consider the strongest in the project?

We have very strong team: and Misha Grishunov, and David Todua, and Gabriel Kupatadze. Our girls were also powerful: Dina Shalzhiyan and Olika Gromova. And these are not just some words of patriotism, “agutism” and so on. This is confirmed by the fact that almost the entire team, with the exception of my partner Dasha Vinokurova, was saved at the fight stage. And about Victoria Olise they told me: now, Timokhin’s death has come, because of her he will completely fly out of the project.

Did you make any friends on the project?

I am constantly in close cybernetic connection - since a person lives far away - with Phil Balzano. And, in general, we all communicate. And we made friends not only among the participants, but also among the stage workers... We have a close relationship with the sound engineer. Very much. Well, everything is fine. Thank God everything is fine.

What would you spend a million on if you won?

I don’t know... I would probably buy a field and sow it with corn. And communism will return to the country (Laughs.). In fact, I know what the winner will spend this million on. But I won't tell you. I'll probably keep quiet. I already said a lot of unnecessary things in all the interviews. And in general there is such a proverb: “God gave, God took.”

And about my own tour Are you dreaming about Russia?

Since 2001, I have had one big tour with my musical group. The only thing was that I had to pause due to my participation in “The Voice”. The musicians of my band look at me like animals because the whole of December is the busiest season for musicians, and we sat without corporate events and without concerts. And in January, what is there to collect? Everyone is finishing yesterday's Olivier and gurgling overheated, stale lemonade.

Have you received any interesting offers? For example, Yang Ge acts in films...

Friendly and brotherly relations. I won’t say that there was a strong confrontation. What will you do here: by audience voting Brandon won, and this, in principle, is logical. He is truly a professional. Brandon has both wonderful vocal abilities and acting skills. He is an artist, gets into character with every song. He also has a huge baggage music education– what I’m missing here. And somewhere you have to entertain the audience with some kind of scam, some trinkets, beads with a mirror.

Everyone has different tastes. Leonid Nikolaevich wrote on Instagram that he was trying to guess. He says that both were expensive, but you still have to choose on this show. So I would give it 50/50 - they say, the audience decides. But he couldn’t do that under the terms of the competition. And I know that for Leonid Nikolaevich it was a great pain. As he says, my only criterion is the desire to guess the finalists. And I didn’t guess right. I was in this mood in the finals. It seems to me that Brandon in the finale would have been much more organic with the material that I performed. Although God knows! Still waters run deep. But everything I did in the finals was definitely Brandon's thing. In the finals I climbed from my skate onto someone else's...

In general, the finale for me was not a relief when you come out with your “crowns”, but rather a peak of tension - when you need concentration of your brain, your voice, and everything else. This is a challenge, a competition that I signed up for. Nobody said it would be easy, but it's cool. And it's not even about some vocal singing: here you will have to go through a composition that you would never undertake to make. And this is acting. This is what I was most worried about.

Can you wish your fans and our readers anything for the New Year?

In the New Year, I wish everyone to work more. Just to be fully loaded. It's good to have a little rest and then work. Because the most important thing for a person is to be in demand. It doesn’t matter who you are - a manual worker, a creative intelligentsia or a technical worker... Demand is the most important thing. And, of course, health – according to the old Russian tradition. In general, of course, it must be desired first of all. And everyone sells the rest - and, if anything happens, I know where.

Timofey Kopylov

In the semi-finals of the show “The Voice” there were very strong opponents. Timofey Kopylov, a ward from Leonid Agutin’s team, admitted that he considers Brandon Stone a competitor, but is ready to fight. The musician studied music on his own, so he does not rule out that his competitors are much stronger than him.

“I understand that I lack a certain musical and academic base. Never took lessons. I'm just singing. Sometimes I imagined myself almost as Thomas Anders when I was little. I'm mowing under it. I am now supported by the guys from the Record Orchestra group, family, children...” noted Timofey.

WITH early years Kopylov grew up listening to Russian rock. He believes the genre still has some development to go. According to him, many groups give concerts, perform and pack halls. “After all, this is music that comes from the heart. Now they have given the green light to federal channels many non-standard performers,” explained the artist.

Timofey follows modern trends and believes that rap is a real art where rhymes and rhythm are felt. “Music is a hobby until you start making money from concerts. First you work for your name and equipment, only then do performances bring in income. Each artist has his own material, but they are not yet allowed to sing it on air. The semi-finalists have very interesting material. Nastya Zorina also made a lot of noise with her solo number, but, unfortunately, did not go further,” said Kopylov.

In addition to music, Timofey runs a company that builds offices.

“We rent out buildings. Otherwise, I’m lazy, sometimes I like to lie on the couch. I’m inert: at first it’s hard to swing, and then to stop. Sometimes it’s better for me to work with my hands,” the artist noted.

He remembered the story that many people worked with their hands because they did not rely on their vocal abilities. According to Timofey, many show business figures could replace labor at enterprises.

“But there are also many cosmic artists who seem to exist in parallel worlds. Sometimes I also think that aliens will take me away, give me a cosmic mace and send me to Earth to punish sinners. I believe in God, I usually ask him for help. I think that people who don’t have this think differently,” Kopylov noted.

The musician believes that one should always be grateful, both for criticism and for positive feedback. However, with a negative balance of power, he does not want close attention.

“I share my emotions in songs, at performances, I don’t like to talk about personal things and invite people to visit. It is better to meet in public cafes and restaurants. I rest when I change activities,” said the artist.

Unlike other people his age, Timofey never considered it necessary to use various stimulants for inspiration.

“I never drank. I am a child of Gorbachev’s anti-alcohol campaign. It seems to me that drug addiction and alcoholism have social consequences. Rock is a movement in opposition to what exists,” explained Kopylov.

He was born and raised in Vladimir, studied at school No. 36 and Vladimir Pedagogical University. Like many young people of the 90s, he created his own rock band. Having grown up, he started a business, but did not give up music. In 2013, he composed the hit “Lada Sedan”. But he became truly famous when he reached the top in the mega-popular television show"Voice". Today in the “Person” section is the silver medalist of “The Voice” Timofey Kopylov.

I started giving more interviews. That's all. But the purpose of participating in the show was precisely this - to draw attention to the Record Orchestra group and to our songs. While the group does not have media support, our new songs do not appear on the air. This problem is in the process of being solved. It would have been a sin not to take advantage of this opportunity to popularize our creativity. Although everything didn’t work out right away. I sent an application for the third, fourth, fifth seasons. And only the sixth answered.

If he had not answered, I would have sent on the seventh. It’s just that during these attempts my priorities changed. If on the third “Voice” you wanted to show how cool you can sing, climb to stratospheric heights in terms of tonality, there was such a sporting interest. By the time everything happened, there was a desire to simply perform bright, emotional and memorable numbers.

Leonid Agutin listened to our entire repertoire. He said that there are several hits. His perception is sound. Most of our songs are outright satire. The fact that they made him smile and even laugh outright is the highest praise. But any TV show is about views, and not about discovering new stars or expanding the musical horizons of the public. If you sing a song that is absolutely unknown to anyone, there is a very high risk that the viewer will simply change the channel. Therefore, the bet is on turbo hits. It's not the artist who decides here. Only one song that I was passionate about before this show was performed on the “Voices” stage. All other numbers are the fruit of a compromise or a challenge, like “Cuckoo”. In the show "The Voice" 95% of success is the choice of song. And we must give Leonid Agutin his due, he never broke his knee. If you don't like the song, it won't work. That was the case with the song Human. I tried to storm it, but in the end they abandoned it two days before the dress rehearsal. I sang Lady Gaga's Million Reasons.

- How can you prepare a room in two days?

Like this. You sit down at night and do it simply. What about the final? You made it to the finals on Friday. You have a day to decide which three songs you will perform. On Tuesday, the arrangements should be ready for the Phonograph Orchestra to sort them out. And on Wednesday there is a dress rehearsal. And on Thursday, the rehearsal is already on stage, when the light, sound, and stage movement are installed. The entire transmission is run through. That is, it takes the same two days to prepare three numbers.

- I had to plow, bless you! Haven’t you come to Vladimir at all?

Between the semi-finals and finals we also gave a concert in Vladimir, because the group needs to live on something. And so December flew by. We haven't received any prize money yet. You can't make money on this show. “Voice” is a foundation for the future.

- In general, do you feed music and creativity? Or does a modern musician need something else in his soul?

Well, he feeds him. Mikhail Krug, when asked why he needed sawmills, said: “It is still unknown whether the muse will come or not, but the sawmill keeps sawing and sawing.” Business has been a part of my life since 1997. This disciplines you: you have to get up in the morning, go solve pressing problems and get a thrill from it, so simple, human. For example, there was nothing, and you renovated the premises where people now work and feed their families. These are some fundamental things. When a person does not have this in his life, he begins to go crazy with unfulfillment. Because the fruits of creative labor cannot be touched with your hands. But it seems to me that a person initially has a desire for production. When a person fails to realize this productive creative instinct, the person breaks down as a person. He turns into some kind of animal with an endless search for himself. Why should you look for yourself? Go to the barn, take a shovel and dig! This is (business in the former Intourist bus depot. - Note auto.) - my barn.

- So you share life and creative goals for yourself?

No, I want to leave a mark that will be remembered with a kind word: good songs, a strongly built barn, a house, and so on.

- Tell us about your childhood, youth, about the people who influenced your development.

I studied at school 36. Dad is an engineer, mom is an accountant. Parents are musically “well-read” people. Since the mid-1970s, they listened to rock and “hip.” Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd played constantly in our family. My father also sang in Vladimir Zavazalsky’s choir “Vladimir Singers,” thanks to which I had contact in musical circles. When, at the age of 15, I began to be drawn to electric guitars, I could not find like-minded people in our city. And then I went to Germany, as a guest student at a Waldorf school, and there I saw that guys my age were already playing at a very high professional level. They have the infrastructure of rock clubs for this, equipment is freely available for sale. In the 90s we got it through friends. Later, when I entered the Vladimir Pedagogical University, I met local rock musicians. I can’t say that I joined the rock crowd, but I found like-minded people. And in my deepest school childhood the guys had little interest in music. Everyone was involved in sports and martial arts. In our company, it was generally believed that music was only for girls. But this time itself is unforgettable, it still pops up in my head.

- It turns out that you studied music already in adulthood?

I didn't study.

- Nugget?

I went to see Irina Vasilyeva. She taught me how to sing, because my voice would break during the second or third song. She taught me to warm up before a performance so that I could at least survive until the encore. The guys from Vladimirskaya also help me regional philharmonic society- soloists of the Russian orchestra. And I pick up some vocal tricks simply at the level of communication with colleagues in the workshop.

I am a child of Gorbachev's anti-alcohol propaganda. Since 1984, children of alcoholics with deformities began to be shown on television. This made an indelible impression on me, so I have never tried alcohol in my life. I don’t want to judge any of the people who cripple their lives with drugs and alcohol, escaping reality. But the system plays on this in the most inhumane way. People are offered a psychological pattern on television, in the family: problem - drink. But this does not make the problem any less. A person simply goes into an alcoholic tailspin and sinks lower and lower. The social consequences of consuming these things are terrible. In our country, where 80% of prisoners are imprisoned for crimes committed while intoxicated, showing scenes of alcohol consumption and joking about it is simply the height of idiocy.

-Can you decipher your image? Beard, rosary - is it all of a religious nature?

Rings, hats, rosaries - these are just gifts. Plus it's a means of producing the show. If a song requires all this tinsel, it would be a shame not to use it. But I take it all off when it’s not necessary, like in the song “Ringing,” for example. I don’t have an image, it’s just a stage costume for some roles.

You said that the Lada Sedan was born in Sacco and Vanzetti, where there are many street fruit vendors. Are there any “places of power” in Vladimir that inspire you?

- “Lada Sedan” was born in my head. Most often, songs come when you are alone with yourself, away from gadgets, away from communication. Then your internal dialogue begins. Self-isolation helps, no matter where you are at this time. Most of all, while driving and in the soul, rhymes come to me personally. And the places that emotionally support you are the places where you grew up, with which you associate memories and feelings. I'm from Dobroye.

-Aren’t you cramped in Vladimir now?

I really enjoy it. I eat well and sleep well. Here you can freely engage in creativity. In Moscow, of course, there are more opportunities to participate in various shows. But, to be honest, I don’t really believe that the Record Orchestra’s repertoire would be broadcast on federal television channels. This is a slightly different category of concept. Rock parties, concerts, yes, this is a little lacking. But, on the other hand, it’s a two-hour drive to Moscow... The whole point is in your activity.
