Katya, when did you realize that your calling was to sing? Do you remember your first performance on stage?

I have been singing as long as I can remember - from early childhood: and in kindergarten, and at school, and then at competitions and all sorts of events. For me, singing is as natural as breathing, eating, walking, sleeping... And the first time I performed on stage was in... my mother’s belly. She danced Russian folk dance in the 9th month of pregnancy. Now I understand that, in fact, I didn’t know how to sing until I was 20 years old - I just learned, and I’m still learning now. It was this desire to learn, and charisma that were the most important for the young musician. I learned from every project I took part in, from every teacher. Sometimes two weeks of intensive classes can give more than a year of study at the institute, because you understand that you need this knowledge like air. At first there was a children's art house, then I took academic vocal lessons. My teacher Anatoly Mikhailovich Ostafiychuk - a musician, conductor, wrote scores for large orchestras - wanted me to go to university and study further. But I went my own way. He gave me a lot, and I am grateful to him for believing in me so much. I even studied in the queue of the Star Stagecoach project. Imagine, 6 thousand young talents stand in one line for several days in a row. We didn't see each other as rivals: we were friends. They shared their experiences with each other and bawled popular songs in the foyer. And it was very cool!

- And if we talk about celebrities - who did you listen to, who did you learn from? And how did you create your group?

I come from a small Belarusian town near Mogilev. I was looking for like-minded people from the age of 15. In those years I listened to Russian rock: Zemfira, the collections “Brother” and “Brother-2”: this is Butusov, “Agatha Christie”. Among the foreign bands I liked The Cardigans, Nirvana, Guano Apes. IN adolescence the soul protests against everything, and music comes to the rescue. I experimented, “interfered,” mixed, “screamed”... When I decided to create a group, I was 18. By that time, I had a clear idea of what kind of project I wanted to do. My friends called me and said that there were talented guys in Mogilev who would definitely suit me. They turned out to be Lenya and Vasya (Leonid Tereshchenko and Vasily Bulanov. - Ed.) True, it was not easy to get them into your team. Lenya, for example, didn’t come to the first rehearsal at all! I persuaded him over the phone, sent him countless SMS messages. As a result, he could not stand my pressure and came. We, one might say, “played together” the first time. Now I don’t remember what we sang: something in “gibberish” from the category of “what I see, I sing about.” Soon we felt crowded in Mogilev, we decided to move to St. Petersburg. I wanted scope, creativity, development! Of course it wasn't easy. To earn money for food and housing, I got a job in a toy store. Not everyone who came there could afford to buy something, so I started making toys myself and giving them to such people for free. I don’t understand how I wasn’t fired then! (Laughs). We performed at apartment buildings, in bars, and just sang on the street. And it was an incredible thrill: to stand, for example, on Malaya Sadovaya in the middle of all these palaces and fountains - and understand that this is not scenery, everything is real. And people are walking by, and suddenly you catch them - and they stop. Then we performed at the “Open Windows” festival, participated in the Channel One show “Red Star”, then received special prize on the “New Wave”... A lot has happened in seven years. Step by step they walked towards their goal and won over their listeners. Now there is fame and popularity, but we are only at the beginning of the journey. In our team there are no problems, no quarrels, we are all excited at work, bursting with ideas.

- How do you rest?

I rest when my energy is directed in the right direction. It's important for me to do something useful. I’m not saying that it’s bad to lie around the TV and watch TV series; I myself sometimes sin with this. But I am always burning with some ideas and have not yet fully explored all the corners of my space. Right now I have two desires: to drive a car and learn French. I want to record a hit in French. The first one will be “Minibus”, we are already working on it. I also like to make surprises. Just the other day I returned from Paris, where I went with my mother. She had dreamed of seeing Notre Dame all her life, and I finally made her dream come true. The main thing is to live and enjoy. Work and enjoy, relax and enjoy.

- Voicing a character in the cartoon “Wolves and Sheep: Crazy Transformation” - is this another experiment?

Certainly! After all, this is a new experience for me. I’ve already voiced a cartoon before, but it wasn’t such a big role. The director literally told me in 20 minutes what and how to do. And he gave me special exercises in advance that helped me a lot. In general, I am very grateful to the creators of the cartoon for giving me a chance again. In addition, in “Wolves and Sheep,” which is released on April 28, I also sing. The main topic became our track “Stay Yourself”.

- Katya, it recently became known that you and the band’s guitarist Leonid Tereshchenko got married...

There hasn't been a wedding yet. We have been together for a long time and, of course, we think about this event. What will it be like: solemn and crowded - for all relatives or a modest holiday - for the two of us? Chic outfits - or jeans and sneakers? I can’t say that love between us arose at first sight. You know, sometimes you see a person and either intuition or some other inner feeling kicks in, but you understand: “He will take me away!” This thought was spinning in my head from the very first time we met. And then everything somehow happened by itself. I never told anyone about this. We started working together and then we just became together. I am incredibly lucky; Lenya is a wonderful person. He has no flaws. I like his thinking. We are united by music, because music is our life. I have no idea how the representatives get along different professions. There is a belief that love lasts three years. Perhaps this is true. But if, besides love, people are connected by something else: interest, friendship, respect, then three years is far from the limit!

Creation IOWA groups original and multifaceted. All attempts to characterize it stylistically are useless. IOWA music is made according to its own unique musical patterns. The group consists of only 3 people: vocalist and lyricist Ekaterina Ivanchikova, guitarist and music writer Leonid Tereshchenko and drummer, DJ and drummer Vasily Bulanov. They, like pieces of one puzzle, fit together perfectly, and the result was the IOWA group.

IOWA (IOWA) - this is how the lead singer of the group Katya was nicknamed in honor of the album of the same name by the group Slipknot back in the days when she shaved her temples and was fond of heavy music. Subsequently, this nickname gave the name to the group, which with a powerful fresh stream entered the mainstream of Russian show business.

Several years ago, the musicians moved from Belarus to St. Petersburg and immediately became a discovery for the Russian audience. Vivid images, the manner of performance unusual for listeners and the powerful energy of the group simply could not go unnoticed. The IOWA group quickly climbed to the star Olympus Russian stage– their videos collect several million views, their songs spread across radio stations, ended up in shows, TV series and became popular hits.

Even if you think you haven't heard a single IOWA song, you probably haven't. You just didn’t know that the songs that firmly took a place in your head and your heart were sung by IOWA. “This song is simple, so that everyone will melt” is heard in the series “Fizruk”, “Smile” - in “Molodezhka”, “Sweet Life”, the film “Graduation”, and it was also covered in the show “The Voice. Children".

In 2012, the guys became participants in the “New Wave”, where they received a special prize from Love Radio. Since then, the group has been constant guests of the festival. In 2014, the group performed at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sochi.

Current events

Now the group is actively touring throughout the country from Moscow to Vladivostok, giving 12-14 concerts a month. Their live performances are a powerful charge of energy and positivity. On stage, the guys give it their all, making everyone in the room smile and dance.

In November 2014, the first album of the IOWA group, called “Export,” will be released. Now everything is from Belarus, and good music Same. Fans of IOWA's work will finally be able to hear studio versions of their favorite songs in it. For those who know the group only from their hits, this album will be a real revelation.

In addition to the well-known hits “Smile”, “Mama”, “Simple Song” and “Marshrutka”, the album contains songs that show new facets of IOWA’s creativity. For example, the song “The Same Thing.” This is the most powerful, sincere and lyrical song in which the guys show their true selves and literally bare their souls. The video for this track will appear next winter.

“Our words warm us,” the musicians say about their work. And dozens of cities and thousands of fans are waiting for concerts to come and lose themselves in the music of IOWA.

In parallel with the regular one, the girl attended music school. For several years she studied piano. Katyusha also attended a drawing group, vocal and dance studios.

In adolescence, Ivanchikova’s first love came. The sudden surge of feelings prompted her to write poems and songs. Then our heroine thought about creating her own group.

Student

Ekaterina Ivanchikova, whose biography we are considering, wanted to become famous singer. But by the time it's over high school the girl decided to go a different route. She went to Minsk, where she entered the BPU named after. M. Tanka. Within the walls of this university, Katya received two professions - “journalist” and “philologist”.

Music

In 2009, the Iowa group was created in Mogilev. Ekaterina Ivanchikova assembled a team consisting of young and ambitious guys. Our heroine was responsible for songwriting and vocals. She also played the bass guitar. Let's list the rest of the IOWA group members:

  • Andrey Artemyev - keyboards;
  • Lenya Tereshchenko - songwriter, guitar;
  • Vasya Bulanov - drums, DJ;
  • Vadim Kotletkin - bass guitar.

The team toured all over Belarus. Everywhere their performances were received with a bang. Ekaterina Ivanchikova is a singer who amazes (in in a good way words) not only with his vocals, but also with his ability to move on stage.

Career Development

The Iowa group achieved success in their native Belarus. However, this was not enough for them. In 2011, the guys decided to go to Moscow with what they had musical material. Russian capital did not receive the guests very friendly. Production centers refused to work with the unknown group. To earn money for food and lodging, the Belarusian band performed on Malaya Sadovaya Street. Katya sang songs own composition. The guys played on musical instruments. Next to them lay a hat into which passers-by put money - no matter how much they didn't mind.

One day the talented guys were advised to take part in music competition. and her colleagues decided to take advantage of this recommendation in March 2012. The IOWA group appeared in the TV show “Red Star”, organized by Channel One. The guys managed to stand out among other participants. But after a couple of weeks, the audience had already forgotten about them.

In April 2012, Katya invited her bandmates to shoot a video for the song “Mama”. The guys agreed. There were no problems finding sponsors and music video directors. The video was ready in May. Musicians from the Iowa group posted it on Youtube. Behind short term The clip received more than a million views.

Success

Real popularity came to the team after the composition “Smile” was played on Russian radio stations. This was followed by a video of the same name. People began to hum the simple lyrics of the song. Offers of cooperation rained down on Belarusian musicians, as if “from a cornucopia.”

And the Iowa group, led by Katya Ivanchikova, continued to pamper fans with new compositions. “Simple Song”, “Minibus”, “Bride” - many social network users added these tracks to their playlist.

Ekaterina Ivanchikova: personal life

Tall, beautiful, confident, daring and stylish - these words can describe our heroine. She probably has a lot of male fans. Does Ekaterina Ivanchikova reciprocate their feelings? The singer’s personal life is shrouded in many secrets and rumors.

The print media report with enviable regularity about the wedding of the lead singer of “Iowa”. Some articles even include a photo with the caption “husband of Ekaterina Ivanchikova.” But these are just the machinations of ill-wishers and workers yellow press. Today Katya is not legally married. She has never been married before. And I didn’t have time to have children either. Perhaps this is all because Ivanchikova places increased demands on her potential chosen one. A man must be intelligent, decent, wealthy and morally stable. Nationality, height and age do not matter.

Finally

Now you know where Ekaterina Ivanchikova was born and how she became popular. We examined the girl's biography in detail. We wish her and other members of the IOWA group creative success and financial well-being!

A year ago, the lead singer of the group IOWA Ekaterina Ivanchikova told our portal about the difficult path to fame and casually mentioned her lover, but did not reveal his name. A couple of months ago it turned out that Ekaterina Ivanchikova and the band’s guitarist Leonid Tereshchenko got married. This time, in a conversation with the site, the singer spoke not only about her creativity, but also about her new role as a wife.

Until recently, the IOWA group remained a mystery to us. The members of the group - Ekaterina Ivanchikova, Leonid Tereshchenko and Vasily Bulanov - could talk for a long time about their path to fame, creativity and relationships in the group and almost nothing about their personal life.

Of course, Katya never hid that her heart was occupied, but she refused to name her lover. Fans suspected that the lead singer was having an affair with one of the members of her own group. Not long ago, the guesses were confirmed - Katya said that she married Leonid, and yet the young people have been together for 10 years. Therefore, in an interview with Ekaterina, we talked not only about creativity, but also about her new role as a wife. But first things first.

I have a diary where I write down all my poems, songs, thoughts. I used to write on the first pieces of paper that came to hand, and, of course, it all got lost. And it’s a shame, because even if the song didn’t turn out completely, sooner or later the inspiration will return and it can be finished. Therefore, now that my thoughts are collected in one diary, I randomly open any page, find the words, and a song is born in my head.

website: Do you have a stage image, or is what we see the real you?

E.I.: It is very difficult to embody an image all the time - sooner or later your real essence will appear, and people will immediately start writing about it. I think that's how the yellow press came into being.

“I’m lucky - my creativity is inseparable from myself. I don't share the concept personal life and the stage."

website: Can you imagine yourself in any other profession?

E.I.: I think I could be an artist who creates performances. I would definitely “weave” music, people, light into my creations and would do it in front of the audience. Or maybe I would become a dancer... You see, I still imagine something related to the stage. I really need people, their immediate reaction, interaction with them. This is such a feeling of euphoria, adrenaline... Once you experience these emotions, you will no longer be able to refuse them.

E.I.: Scenes - never. Rather, I was afraid of people’s reaction - how they would accept the song, its style, whether they would understand the idea.

E.I.: Absolutely right. You know, there are people who go through life with a smile and glow, come to the company, and everyone notices them. Just don’t confuse this with importunity and selfishness. I'm talking about people who set the pace, smile, joke, lighten the mood, give sincere compliments. I am somewhat similar to such people.

website: I generally got the impression that you are a kind, open, maybe even a little naive person. Do my feelings deceive me?

E.I.: Friends say that I can be 12 years old (smiles).

“It is believed that only children believe in miracles, and adults know that life disappoints, breaks down, and in general it is not sugar and not a fairy tale. But I’m sure that only what you believe in happens.”

For example, you need to learn to give, because this is the only way you can get something in return. Previously, I couldn’t understand this: “Well, how can I go on stage now and spend all my energy? I won’t have anything left.” But in 2012, at the “New Wave”, I decided to give it my all, it didn’t matter to me whether I would get a return or not. A performance is more than just an “artist sings - people listen” scheme. This is an exchange of energy, and at the New Wave I learned how to manage it. Then I realized that I wanted to give, because such creative energy always comes in return. Sometimes fans write letters telling us how they have changed under the influence of a song or our performance. Some give back through hugs when they come into our dressing room.

website: Not long ago you and your husband Leonid declassified your relationship. Has this fact affected your creativity?

E.I.: Yes, sure. Our whole life intersects with our creativity. We just released the song “Your Poems, My Guitar,” and in the video for it, famous couples showed and included themselves in this story. Moreover, everything happened completely by accident, but as if on purpose. It’s not for nothing that they say, everything has its time.

E.I.: Initially, we were absolute opposites, it took us a long time to adjust, but we sincerely wanted to change for each other. We began to do one thing, and then feelings arose that seemed inappropriate to us working together. And at some point we sat down at the table to talk about it, trying to figure out whether it would be possible to combine personal and work (and then we were serious about work). In the end, we decided that it would be better and more correct not to meet... And we kissed for the first time (smiles).

In a relationship, you don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so you need to enjoy every day. Lenya, by the way, is a “professional” in asking for forgiveness, he apologizes every day, and he doesn’t do it automatically, but really worries about any little things.

“My husband is the most well-mannered and gallant person on earth - he constantly gives me his hand, opens the car door, takes care of me. It feels like we just met and he's trying to impress me. I have never met such people in my life and, of course, I am happy that Lenya is my husband. I never tire of telling his mother words of gratitude and I am amazed how she managed to raise such a person.”

website: I’ll assume that you quarrel quite rarely.

E.I.: In all the 10 years that we have been together, we have only quarreled once. Because of our cat. When we first got a kitten, we still couldn’t domesticate it. We lived on the first floor, and the kitten often ran through the window into the yard, and always into the same sandbox, so we knew exactly where to look for him.

But one day Lenya and his band (then he was a member of a rock band) went on tour to Kyiv, and I went to Minsk to see a vocal teacher - I had four planned school days. And then the cat ran away again, but this time someone offended her - Lenya found her shabby. In general, we had a big quarrel over this - the cat was our child, whom I did not keep an eye on, moreover, I did not immediately come home, but stayed in Minsk. He, of course, was offended, because the cat, in his opinion, was more important. Then we broke up for two days, then, of course, we made up. Don't worry about the cat, everything is fine with her, she feels great.

E.I.: No. From now on, if any misunderstandings or grievances arise, we just talk about it right away so that there are no breakdowns.

“People usually wait, accumulate everything within themselves, and then make a scandal. I think this is the main mistake.”

website: You’ve been together for quite a long time, haven’t you thought about children?

E.I.: The fact is that many members of our team have children, and if I give birth now, the group will cease its activities. I like what's happening now so far. Today I think in one direction, but with the birth of a child my thinking will change. I don’t know... Maybe it’s fear, because a child is a big responsibility, a different life. I'm not ready to step into the unknown yet. Or maybe, at the end of the conversation, I’ll think about it and understand: “She’s right.” (smiles). Let's see.

Kate , tell me how you, such a sweet girl, got the nickname IOWA in honor of the title of the Slipknot album?
Oh, this is such a joke! They started calling me that in my native Belarus. I hung out at the apartment building with heavy teams, and also tried to growl. And they gave me this nickname. And later I found out that the album was not named after American state Iowa, and the consonant abbreviation “Idiots Always Walk Around”. We constantly repeat our mistakes - I like the meaning of my nickname.

Wait a minute! Did you sing using the growling technique?
It was terrible! I don't know how I survived. It's very difficult, actually. You are constantly straining your ligaments. But I had a whole concert in this style in Mogilev! Or a five-hour rehearsal during which you growl the whole time.

And how did you come...
In pop music?

Well, why go straight to pop music? To lighter music!
After moving to St. Petersburg, we began to write more cheerful songs. Well, still people pass different stages. In my teenage years, I had a song called “She was burned like Joan of Arc” and similar depressive works. But all these sad songs were incoherent, they lacked integrity and harmony. But in St. Petersburg everything worked out, everything became brighter!
I also like to mix and match everything. I like folk with jazz, rock with pop and hip-hop. There are no frameworks or rules in music. I like it when they rap in classic costumes, when they skillfully combine soul and rock, as, for example, John Newman and Stromae do. So I wanted to mix everything up. For example, I didn’t completely give up growling. Performing the song “I'm Losing My Mind” on stage, I growl when the heroine of the song quarrels with her boyfriend. And by the way, I studied academic singing for two years - I also use this skill, of course. I also want to learn how to beatbox and play the guitar well.

So are you all from Belarus?
Yes, many years ago we came to St. Petersburg with some guys, moved in together, and got a job at a factory.

Where?!
We worked at a factory on Pionerskaya Street and painted New Year's candles to our own songs, which were already played on the radio. Well, how? It was necessary to pay rent, to live somehow. We worked there for a year, recorded “Mama” at the same time, and suddenly things started to take off. Therefore, I want to say to desperate readers and our fans, who often write that their efforts are fruitless: “Just do what you love, and everything will work out, because you really want it!”

provided by IOWA

From the factory to show business. And how do you like the status of popular musicians?
We still haven’t felt it, we don’t fully understand what’s happening. In general, we are quite closed people - our circle of friends is narrow, and therefore our life has not fundamentally changed. Yes, we travel a lot, we started seeing more people, but we don’t feel famous. We don’t even immediately recognize our own songs on TV or radio. Although it's nice that different shows or competitions, children sing our songs. This is happiness! Someone sends wedding photos with the comment that they met at our concert, they organize flash mobs to our songs, and congratulate each other on their birthday. That's when you realize that your songs are connected to someone's memory. Cool!

Your group took five whole years to get to their first album.
This is our omission. We should have been in the studio much earlier, but we simply didn’t have time. After the release of the song “Mama,” we began active touring, we could not record, we made videos in a hurry. Thank God that the tours are still going on, that there are a lot of them and they want to see us. But in this rush, unfortunately, we did not have time to make an album. I promise that we won’t delay with the next album.

How would you describe your average listener? Who is this album for?
I used to check the view statistics on Youtube and realized that different songs have different listeners. “Mama” was watched by girls from 12 to 25 years old who wanted to be like the lyrical heroine: leave their mother, fall in love, become independent. And then other songs and other people came along, and it became so nice that we were able to reach a wide audience. I’m glad that completely different people, including older people, began to come to our concerts. A poet who is 77 recently wrote to me! He says our songs are very funny. He considered it necessary to write to me and express his attitude, I was pleasantly surprised. One day, a 58-year-old woman, a biology teacher, came from a small village. I came with my daughter (and she doesn’t listen to us, it’s her mother who is a fan). One elderly couple pulled the thorns off the roses so that I wouldn’t get pricked, and then they kissed me like they were their relative. Children listen to us too, but the problem is that they are not allowed to attend concerts. I struggled for a long time with the +18 limit on our shows. We often give club performances, but children are not allowed in clubs. But soon there will be solo albums without age restrictions.
