Ethno-historical festival dedicated to the “battle of Timur and Tokhtamysh. Ethno-historical festival “Battle of Timur and Tokhtamysh” Lipetsk region, Volchye village: ethnographic holiday “Volchensk patterns”

  • 02.07.2020

Yesterday in the Krasnoyarsk district of the Samara region, in the vicinity of the village of Stary Buyan, the ethno-historical festival “Rus. The Age of Unification” was held, dedicated to the battle of Timur and Tokhtamysh in 1391. The rich and varied program included: folk entertainment (horse riding, archery and crossbow shooting); crafts fair; museum town (history, quests and discussion platform); concert and theatrical performances. Play areas were organized for children. The festival's many guests had plenty to see and do. I was particularly interested in the city of craftsmen with pottery and blacksmith workshops, wicker weaving, knitting, felting and, of course, doll making - here I took a good look at small ethnic dolls in national costumes. Maybe someday I’ll sew something like this for my own people!

The head of the Samara region, Dmitry Azarov, came to watch the festival site and the reconstruction of a historical event - the battle of Timur and Tokhtamysh. The Battle of Kondurcha is the largest battle that took place on June 18, 1391 between the troops of the ruler of Central Asia, Emir Timur (Tamerlane) and the Khan of the Golden Horde, Tokhtamysh, on the banks of the Kondurcha River. It was this battle that decided the fate of Rus', freeing it from vassalage. The Golden Horde was dealt a blow from which it could no longer recover. Dmitry Azarov noted that the festival is interesting not only to residents of the region, but also to neighboring regions: “I am sure that this can become one of the centers of event tourism in the Samara region. And everything that is interesting to people, that can create additional conditions for economic development , is in the area of attention of regional authorities."

VagantsFest

Concert venue \ Paid \ Moscow

The name of our festival originates from the ancient word “Vagant”. This word originated during the Middle Ages. For the first time, wandering clerics were called this way, bringing their poetic, musical and prosaic creativity to the world. Over time, this type of activity was picked up by many other classes.

In different countries, vagantas were called by different names. These are French jugglers, and German shpilmans, and English minstrels, and even Russian buffoons! But this did not change their essence and meaning at all. They carried folk works, their thoughts and ideas in their creativity. They glorified and managed to capture for centuries the era to which they belonged, creating the history of literature, poetry and theater.
