The theater on Vasilievsky is one of the youngest theaters in St. Petersburg, although the origins of theatrical art in the Vasileostrovsky district of the city are rooted deep in history. The Russian State Public Theater on Vasilievsky Island was established in 1756. Its first director was the great Russian writer and playwright A.P. Sumarokov, who created a repertoire for the Russian stage in the middle of the 18th century. The current Theater on Vasilievsky, being the successor of the glorious cultural traditions, confidently declares itself as a modern, successfully developing creative team.

On September 1, 1989, a new theater was born in St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg State Theater on Vasilievsky is known today in Russia and abroad, but then, in 1989, its appearance, in general, was not even noticed. Young theater-studios were born almost every day, and the birth of an experimental studio at the famous Petersburg beat quartet "Secret" was an event, probably only for the organizers themselves.
In 1989, "The Secret" was at its peak of popularity. Almost all of its participants were professional actors, graduates of LGITMiK, and rushed with the idea of creating a drama studio at the Secret, where, naturally, the main actors were to be the "secretaries" Maxim Leonidov, Nikolai Fomenko. The quartet's managers were also theater actors Pavel Konovalov and Vladimir Slovokhotov.
The experimental studio was organized in March 1989, but then the secretaries did not have time to play theater. The business that was started was much more occupied by the restless Konovalov and Slovokhotov, who invited the director Vladimir Glazkov to come up with some kind of performance together. Glazkov liked the old play by A. Kurbsky "It was pouring rain". The performance was 55 minutes long - neither one nor the other. It is impossible to run such a show in the normal professional mode. To get a full-length production, they found a play that was close in meaning and to the same cast - another one-act vaudeville with a love triangle in the center: the play by M. Berkier-Marinier "Lubo-dear". The result was the play "Love in Three" (which is still going on with success and has already become something of a theater mascot). Especially for the school holidays, they staged "The Adventures of Leopold the Cat". "Secret" was going on tour to Gorky, and it was decided to show the performances of the experimental studio there.
The tour of "Secret" in Gorky failed. The tour of the studio theater in the premises of the Gorky Youth Theater went off with a bang - continuous sold out, a huge success. By that time, there was a split within the popular beat quartet. It became clear that the "Secret" was coming to an end, and with this information the studio theater went on vacation. On September 1, 1989, the studio was formally separated from the Secret; coming out of vacation, Vladimir Slovokhotov registered an independent theater. This day became the official birthday of the young theater.
Theaters then grew like mushrooms, it was necessary to come up with some special name for the theater. Then, in 89, satire was in incredible favor. Society thirsted for satire, and this was not the case among the newly formed theaters. In essence, anything could be a satire. This is how the name of the new theater appeared - "Experimental Theater of Satire".
They performed on the stages of the Vyborg House of Culture, the Variety Theater and at large factories in the city and region. In October 1989 they went on their first big tour - to Chelyabinsk. The tour was again a success. They brought a lot of money to St. Petersburg and, instead of happily sharing it all, they bought a transport - an old truck and a UAZ. The homeless theater lived on wheels, and wheels were most needed.
In January 1990, they went on tour to Moscow, and in the spring Slovokhotov, in a state of euphoria from success, decided that it was time to go on tour abroad. In Lahti, Finland, neighboring with St. Petersburg, the performances of the new theater were received with enthusiasm; the commercial success of the tour made it possible to purchase a car and a bus. The car park of the theater increased. With the money earned, it was already possible to stage new performances. By that time, interesting actors entered the troupe - Alexander Chaban, Tatyana Bashlakova, Dmitry Evstafiev. They staged a play by S. Zlotnikov "A man came to a woman" and "Black Angel" by Y. Yakovlev. With the updated repertoire, they went on a big tour to Siberia - Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Barnaul.
Slovokhotov performed the functions of not only the director, but also the artistic director of the young theater. It was he who determined the further artistic and repertoire policy, assembled the troupe, launched performances. During the year, a stable team was formed, fully capable of financing itself, with a fairly extensive repertoire.
By the new 1991, it became clear that gradually the theatrical boom, which gave the theater the opportunity to live on the earned money, gradually began to fade away. This was not yet directly perceptible, but the tendency was outlined, and it was obvious that in another year and a half, and for quite objective reasons, self-financing would come to an end. And then the rich, with a ready-made repertoire, with his own transport, with a talented troupe, the artistic director came to the Ministry of Culture of the Leningrad Region and offered to accept the Theater of Satire "as a gift." The gift was gladly accepted, and in January 1991 the St. Petersburg Theater on Vasilievsky received the status of the State Regional Theater.
In the new status, it was not only difficult practically, but almost indecent to play only on the road and rehearse wherever you have to, without having a hospital. At that very moment, the Uritsky tobacco factory decided to part with its House of Culture, which did not bring any income and required financial investments that the factory did not have. So the building of the old theater of the widow of the actual state councilor, Mrs. von Dervies, became the home of the Theater of Satire, which added a new address to its name, and since then has become the State Theater on Vasilievsky.
Probably, many St. Petersburg residents remember the gray unkempt facade of the House of Culture of the Uritsky Tobacco Factory on Sredny Prospekt - a room divided into a bunch of cells, a spit-out hall with tattered cheap seats and a patched movie screen. When Slovokhotov was offered several semi-ownerless theatrical premises, among them was this one, which gave the impression of complete desolation. But there was a place: close to the metro, in one of the most respectable districts of the city, where, moreover, there was no cultural center. But Vasilievsky Island is a traditionally intelligent area; it is densely populated with old Petersburgers; moreover, there is a university there, a number of university dormitories (including a student dormitory of a theater institute).
Major reconstruction of the building began. The archives were brought up; decided to restore the pre-revolutionary look of the theater of Mrs. von Dervies. Today the Great Hall, Small Stage, old staircases, foyer and cafe almost completely reproduce the architectural style of the early 20th century, which organically fit the necessary elements of modernization. The appearance of the old building gave the Theater of Satire one more individual feature: the interior design in green tones, which are quite rare for theatrical premises. From here came the general color scheme of the entire design - posters, theater programs, and other printed materials.
For a short time, the Theater on Vasilievsky became famous in the city. Two of his performances managed to become a theatrical sensation and received the Triumph and Golden Mask awards ("Song of the Volga" by Rezo Gabriadze) and the Golden Spotlight ("Tanya-Tanya" by Vladimir Tumanov based on the play by Oli Mukhina). Among the two performances-candidates for the State Prize of Russia in 1998 was Akhmat Bayramkulov's performance "Vassa Zheleznova". The Satire Theater has attended theater festivals in Avignon, Paris, Helsinki, Berlin and Palermo, and at the Contact Festival in Poland, Antonina Shuranova won the Best Actress Award for Vassa Zheleznova.
Enough time has passed for the theater to take its place in the "cultural landscape" of the city. The theater is not just young and easy-going; it has a spirit of enthusiasm and romance, which you almost never find in our pragmatic times. This concept is not age-related, it is rather determined by the state of the soul.
The collective is still headed by Vladimir Slovokhotov, who knows from the inside almost all theatrical professions. The theater has modern stage equipment with light and sound equipment, production workshops, and a car park. The repertoire includes Russian and foreign classics, contemporary dramaturgy of various artistic directions. On the stage of the theater are performances created by famous theater directors. This is where the formation of talented young directors takes place.
In 2007, Andrzej Buben, a graduate of the St. Petersburg Theater Academy, became the chief director of the theater. At home in Poland and in other European countries, he is known as a talented director, whose performances have shone at prestigious international festivals. Andrzej Buben defines the modern artistic language of the Theater on Vasilievsky, the orientation towards intellectual, cutting-edge drama.
Vladimir Slovokhotov managed to create a theater, the actors of which, for the most part, are universal: singing, dancing, capable of combining several roles. There are many famous actors in the troupe: People's Artists of the Russian Federation N. Kutasova, P. Konopchuk, Y. Itskov, T. Malyagina, Honored Artists of the Russian Federation T. Bashlakova, Y. Dzherbinova, D. Evstafiev, N. Zhivoderova, E. Rakhlenko, S. Lysov, A. Levit, A. Tsypin, V. Shubin. There are many talented young people in the troupe.
2002 to 2007 under the auspices of the theater, an international festival "Theatrical Island" was held on its basis, reflecting the variety of stage genres and game forms.
The performances of the Theater on Vasilievsky are widely available to spectators not only of St. Petersburg, but also of the Leningrad region, where the collective constantly travels with performances and concert programs, takes part in regional festivals and cultural projects.

Patronage work for the Theater on Vasilievsky is one of the priority areas of activity. For several years now, its actors have been patronizing the Children's Center for Aesthetic Development named after V.I. A. Khochinsky (22 branches in the Center). For underprivileged theatergoers, discounted tickets are on sale.
Thus, creating a public art theater, the best traditions of Russian stage art are being continued on Vasilievsky Island. The path of the Theater on Vasilievsky, according to the leading critics of St. Petersburg, "follows the contemporary art space." In the results of the 2009-2010 season published by the Petersburg Theater Journal. the creative upsurge of the theater, an excellent repertoire and a first-class acting ensemble are noted. Enough time has passed for the theater to take its place in the cultural landscape of the city and country. The creative team is not only young and easy-going, it has a spirit of enthusiasm and romance. The path of the Theater on Vasilievsky, according to the leading critics of St. Petersburg, "follows the contemporary art space." The theater has become a real island of hope, love for man, faith in his best spiritual aspirations.

Found a mistake in the description Theater on Vasilievsky ? Please,

Letter to the administration: In connection with yesterday's incident in your diocese, I appeal to you for just satisfaction!
I think that the event that happened yesterday at the Theater on Vasilievsky, by and large, or, more precisely, is in no way acceptable for understanding the ethics of theater in general. If it is indicated on the Internet. that the time it takes to get from Metro Vasilyeostrovskaya to the Theater on Vasilyevsky is 16 minutes, then this utter lie can become a reason for 1. a complete disorder of the mood of a potential viewer who decided to visit the Theater on Vasilyevsky, 2. loss of a very tangible amount of money, and 3. to feel humiliated and spat upon, artists who just have to help support, so that such incidents do not happen to the viewer. Let me explain briefly what this is about. Yesterday, I, who bought 2 tickets to the Vasilievsky Theater (chamber stage) for the performance Langouste's Laughter in a day, being the owner of 2 tickets, a certain cultural figure, was not allowed to the performance. Reason: 7 minutes late after the call. When I gave the reasons, and tried to explain to this very strange, and now more than suspicious subject, that it is very important for me to get into the theater, to the performance, because being an international-class journalist (a member of the International Federation of Journalists), I must write a review about the play, because I am writing a monograph about theaters in St. Petersburg, this subject caused an aggressive attack on me and he said that a professional has no right to be late to the Theater. On what grounds, the subject has the right to throw such insults in my face, I was absolutely not clear, and I demanded an explanation. To which he replied that he would not allow books to be waved in front of his nose, and he would take every effort to prevent my wife and me from attending the performance. I showed him the red book of membership of the International Federation of Journalists, solely for the purpose of convincing how important it is for me, and for the Theater on Vasilievsky itself, and if it came to this, then for the whole culture as a whole, this is a visit to the performance. Having received a full rebuff, I turned to the ticket office, demanding to get the tickets back, and to get back my own money in the amount of two thousand rubles. The cashier hesitated, but did not return the money. So a question for the employees of the Theater: Who will compensate 1. my wasted nerves, return money for tickets that did not allow them to serve their intended purpose, and who will apologize to us for the spoiled evening, and the whole day in general? If a subject who came from provincial Tula, as it turned out, claims to introduce his codes not only for the artists of the Liteiny Theater, for which he was expelled from the theater, as research sources showed, but also to apply such radical measures to the audience, then the Theater on Vasilievsky very soon it can be broke, because in this way, it can lose the last spectators. And such new aggressive methods applied to the viewer will not lead to good. As for the fact that the money for the ticket did not begin to be returned, this is at least equated to theft and it is in no way permissible to condone this.

The theater on Vasilievsky was founded in 1989. Looking at this date, it immediately becomes clear that he is one of the youngest in St. Petersburg. But the creation of this theater was preceded by a rich history. Previously, the Russian Public Theater operated here under the leadership of Sumarokov. He created a good repertoire, which later became the basis for the new theater. His team successfully continues the established traditions.

The initiative to create a new theater group, which grew into a theater on Vasilievsky, belongs to Vladimir Slovokhotov. He served as the chief administrator of the Secret quartet in St. Petersburg. At first, the name of the theater included the word "satire". The creator explained this by the fact that he wanted to receive the status of a state theater for his brainchild. Therefore, the mention of satire could play into the hands, because in Moscow there is a similar theater, but in St. Petersburg - no.

Slovokhotov achieved a permanent building for his theater, which the team badly needed. Prior to this, the troupe had to change several sites due to material difficulties. Slovokhotov became the permanent artistic director and director of the theater. He managed to create an excellent team that received recognition from the public.

Now the troupe includes many talented actors who are well known to the audience. But the team is constantly replenished with new talents. Many of the artists not only play on stage, but also act in films.

Despite its not too long existence, the theater quickly gained considerable popularity in the city and country. He often tours, showing interesting productions. The repertoire includes both Russian and foreign works. Here you can watch both dramatic and comedy performances. Not without children's performances. Several premieres are released every season. The team successfully combines the traditional approach with experimentation.

In 2010, the word "satire" was removed from the name. In the 2010-11 season, the theater received an important award - the Government Prize, which is equal to the state one. This is a rarity, since only two Russian theaters have won such an award. The theater also received an invitation to participate in European festivals.

In the 2011-12 season, many works by young directors were staged on the stage. In 2012-13, Russian classics were actively staged.

Where is
The theater is located on Vasilievsky Island, far from the usual St. Petersburg routes. It is located on Sredny Prospekt, building No. 48. It is easy to get here from the Vasileostrovskaya metro station.

Good afternoon. Up to 3 years old, without providing a separate seat, free of charge

The theater on Vasilievsky is one of the youngest in St. Petersburg. His repertoire includes performances for both adults and children. The troupe is implementing the "School Theater" project, within the framework of which season tickets have been developed for students.

Theater history

The city on Vasilievsky is famous for the huge number of various troupes - one of them. It opened in 1989. It was originally an experimental studio. The initiative of its creation belongs to the administrator of the famous "Secret" beat quartet Vladimir Slovokhotov. The studio soon changed its status and name. It developed into the Experimental Theater of Satire. The official date of his birth is September 1, 1989.

The theater on Vasilievsky needed its own building. The perseverance of its creator helped the troupe in this matter. He got the city authorities to give his artists the mansion of the widow of state councilor von Derviz - the former House of Culture of the Uritsky Tobacco Factory.

After the troupe settled in this room, the name changed again. Now it was the theater of satire on Vasilievsky.

Director and artistic director Vladimir Slovokhotov managed to gather brilliant actors into his troupe. Today eminent stage masters and talented young artists serve in it.

The theater actively tours, participates in competitions and festivals, is a laureate of such awards as "Golden Sofit", "Triumph" and "Golden Mask".

His repertoire includes domestic and foreign classical playwrights, fairy tales, dramas, comedies, melodramas.

In theater productions, traditional forms coexist with original and experimental concepts.

2007 to 2011 the main director of the theater was Pole Andrzej Buben. He gave the performances a European sound.

Now the main director is V. Tumanov.

Since 2010, the theater has abandoned the word "satire" in its name. Now it is named differently. Its current name is St. Petersburg on Vasilievsky.

Chamber stage

Theater on Vasilievsky at the beginning of the 21st century opened another stage, which was named "Chamber". It is located at Maly Prospekt, house number 49.

It was here that they cooked their skits, which became legendary. On the same stage, they rehearsed their independent work.

Also, exhibitions of works of artists were held here, workshops on drama were held, master classes and creative meetings were held.

Performances for young spectators are being staged on the Chamber Stage today. The Satire Theater on Vasilievsky has developed season tickets especially for children. For junior schoolchildren - "A journey to the land of fairy tales." For high school students - "Classics on the modern stage."

Since 2011, the Chamber Stage has been serving young theater actors as a platform for experimentation. Young, up-and-coming directors and actors get the opportunity to showcase their creativity here. Theatrical readings of plays by young playwrights are also held here.

The Satire Theater on Vasilievsky is rightfully considered one of the young theaters in St. Petersburg, but if you look at the theatrical art on Vasilievsky Island, it has a rather rich and extensive history. In 1756, the Russian State Theater was established, which was called public. The founder and first director was the playwright A.P. Sumarokov. The theater, which exists now, is the inheritor of great cultural traditions.

The creative team is not only modern, but also successfully developing. The Satire Theater began as a studio at the secret beat quartet. The first performance of the collective was the "eternal anecdote" "Love three together" - for how many years it has been very popular and has become the so-called mascot of the theater. The official date of birth of the theater itself is considered to be September 1, 1989, when Vladimir Slovokhotov registered it as a separate independent theater. Since then, he has been its artistic director. It is thanks to Slovokhotov that a brilliant troupe is working in the theater, which not only raises, but also strengthens the prestige of this theatrical collective. Despite its youth and small history, the stage of this theater was seen by many stars of theatrical art: Alexander Khochinsky, Valentina Kovel, Alexei Osminin, Vladimir Osobik, Antonina Shuranova. Julius Kim and Alexander Volodin also worked with the team. TO composer Benjamin Basner co music was written for all performances.

The Satire Theater on Vasilievsky really was and will be relevant for many years to come, thanks to its team and the never-fading enthusiasm of its artistic director, who can be safely called a genius of our time.
