Elder Paisiy Svyatogorets: prophecies about Russia, about the third world war, about the Antichrist.

  • 18.02.2024

Reverend Father Paisius the Svyatogorets was born in the Cappadocian city of Faras in 1924, shortly before the inhabitants of the city fled from their native lands to Greece. He was baptized in honor of the Monk Arsenios of Cappadocia. The aged Faras priest, adorned with the holiness of his life, named him Arsenios, in order, in his own words, “to make him his successor.”

In Greece, the family of little Arseny settled in the city of Konitsa, Epirus region. Here he spent his childhood and youth years. Having absorbed with his mother's milk the stories about the miraculous life of Saint Arseny, from the age of five he talked about becoming a monk. And when the boy learned to read, his favorite pastime was reading the lives of saints, whose ascetic deeds he imitated with great zeal.

Having received an education, he did not want to continue his studies and preferred, in imitation of Christ, to master the craft of a carpenter, which he subsequently practiced diligently and skillfully. At the age of fifteen, he was honored to see the Lord for just one pious thought, with the help of which he was able to repel the attacks of demons tempting him with unbelief. Since then, the flame of love for God and the desire to take the path of monasticism flared up in his heart even more.

But years of great unrest and upheaval for Greece followed: foreign occupation and civil war. But the Monk Paisius, as a citizen and soldier performing military service, showed extraordinary courage and self-sacrifice.

Every moment of his life, Paisiy was ready to sacrifice himself to save others. He often had to be in a barrage of deadly fire, where he saved many soldiers with his heartfelt prayer and was miraculously saved himself.

And after these numerous vicissitudes, Paisius, inspired by holy love, wished to join the angelic ranks of monks. So, in search of a spiritual mentor and Divine silence, he arrived on Athos. However, he was not able to immediately fulfill his desire. In addition, his relatives, who were in a difficult financial situation at that time, asked him to help them. Paisiy returned to Konitsa and began working as a carpenter. But three years later, when Paisius was twenty-nine years old, he retired from worldly vanity and returned to the Holy Mountain.

Having visited many monasteries and kalyvas, Paisius eventually followed the advice of one venerable elder and joined the brethren of the holy monastery of Esphigmen, known for its strict rules. Here he lived in complete obedience and indulged in immeasurable asceticism, surpassing the other brothers in the struggle for Divine grace. But, possessing an unquenchable zeal for a quiet and serene life, he, having received the blessing of the abbot, went to the Philotheus monastery, which at that time was self-governing. Here Paisius, under the guidance of a prudent and wise elder, prepared for the life of a hermit. In those years, he became a stavrophore monk, taking the name Paisius.

Submitting to the Divine will, Paisios settled not in the desert, but in the destroyed monastery of the Mother of God Stomiu, located next to Konitsa. Here he spent four years, leading an equal-angelic life, fighting temptations, helping local residents, saving many people from the teachings of the Protestant communities operating there, and with great difficulty restoring the monastery.

When the work to restore the monastery was completed and the threat from the Gentiles had passed, the monk, daily overcome by many temptations, began to fervently ask God to show him the right path. Thus, Paisius considered the offer of a certain hierodeacon to go with him to the God-walked Mount Sinai as divine providence. And in this dry and arid place, in the monastery of Saint Episteme, he finally comprehended what he had desired for so long - holy solitude.

Through great humility, constant fasting, vigil and unceasing prayer, Paisius managed to overcome all the traps of the misanthropic enemy and enjoy unity with God. Filled with the joy of divine consolation, Paisius enjoyed this holy happiness in the midst of the sultry and merciless desert.

And there would be no reason to leave this field of virtue if - alas! - he was not overtaken by a physical illness caused by the harsh climate and forced Paisius to return to his homeland. Returning again to the Holy Mountain, the monk did not reduce his ascetic deeds, despite the loss of strength, since his spirit retained the same zeal. Living on earth as a wanderer and alien, he became a heavenly resident.

Thus, overcoming theory through practice, he reached immeasurable heights and became a participant in the divine mysteries. He enjoyed the beauty of the Lord, but also received the blessing of the Mother of God. Elder Paisios talked with the saints who appeared to him, saw his Guardian Angel, heard angelic singing and was enlightened by heavenly light.

His name soon spread throughout the world, attracting many exhausted people of all ages and social status. They flocked to his poor kaliva, called “Panaguda,” located next to Karies. Here Elder Paisios spent the last fourteen years of his earthly life. Of course, he did not want to lose the silence he loved so much, thinking about going to an unknown place and praying unnoticed by everyone, pitying and supporting this world.

And again God revealed to him that his mission was to bring comfort to all people, as the words of the prophet say: “Comfort, comfort my people!” (Isa. 40:1). So Paisius devoted himself to consoling and calming people. At night, like a burning candle, he prayed with great pain for all of humanity, remembering a huge number of names of both the living and the deceased.

But during the day he was exhausted, bringing peace to the many pilgrims who flocked to his kaliva, honing the great gifts that the grace of God had endowed him with. He, like a wise housekeeper, prayed and cared for their salvation. The elder saw the secret depths of their hearts, predicted the future, healed spiritual and physical ailments, had power over unclean spirits, freeing those possessed by calling on the name of God. His words were “like the words of God,” as the apostle put it (1 Pet. 4:11).

He revealed to everyone that the true purpose of earthly life is preparation for our true homeland - Heaven, as Saint Kavasila says about it. Paisius tirelessly called on his visitors to repentance, confession and “good deeds.” He was kind, simple and pleasant to talk to, merciful and long-suffering. Having great love for sinners, he nevertheless became a “lion breathing fire” in relation to those who, citing various excuses, turned away from their holy path and patristic traditions. He zealously fought against the spirit of worldliness, considering it the most formidable enemy of human salvation.

A tireless ascetic who suffered from physical illnesses from a young age, with courage and gratitude until the end of his days he endured the martyrdom of cancer, from which he died on July 12, 1994 at the age of seventy. He reposed in the Lord in the monastery of St. John the Theologian in the Souroti region of Thessaloniki, of which he remained the spiritual mentor for twenty-eight years. In this monastery, near the temple of St. Arsenius of Cappadocia, there is also his grave, where his laborious body rests. But from heaven, the Monk Paisius shows people even greater mercies, having great boldness before the Humane God, whom he glorified throughout his life.

Translation from Modern Greek: editors of the online publication

The prophecy of this Athonite elder was remembered quite recently, when the Russian SU-24 airliner was shot down in the skies over Turkey. This Greek monk, who has gained respect throughout the world, has long foreshadowed a military confrontation between Russia and Turkey. Therefore, it is no coincidence that Paisius Athossky’s predictions about Russia 2018 are now of interest to many people in our country.

In fact, this Athonite elder predicted more than one event concerning our state, which has already come true:

A little history

Paisiy was born on July 25, 1924 in Greece. After graduating from school, he, like an ordinary guy, went to serve in the army. In 1950, he became interested in religion and went to the Kutlumush Monastery. Here he lived almost his entire life, engaged in religious practice. In May 1978, the monk moved to the Athonite cell, where he began to receive a huge number of people. He died near Thessaloniki in 1994. Orthodox Christians all over the world continue to come to the grave of this famous elder, which is located in the Theological Monastery. In 2015, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate canonized Paisius the Holy Mountain. At the same time, the reverend monk was included in the calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Terrible predictions for Russia

The elder's prophecy regarding the Middle East looks quite frightening. With his words, he did not try to intimidate anyone, but only indicated what consequences await humanity that has forgotten God. The immorality of people, the cynicism of politicians and the selfishness of the West will lead to unprecedented bloodshed in the East. His prophecy literally goes like this:

“When the Turks block the Euphrates, wait for the arrival of an army of two hundred million at sunrise.”

Until recently, these words seemed like fiction. Today, the predictions of Paisius of Athos are already coming true. Turkey is indeed building a dam on the Euphrates River, and its commissioning is scheduled for 2018. According to a further prediction that Svyatogorets made back in the nineties of the last century, a terrible war will begin between Russia and Turkey. As a result of this confrontation between Christians and Muslims, a third of the Turks will convert to Christianity, another third of the Turkish population will die, and the rest will be forced to leave their homeland. Back in 1991, Paisius mentioned the fall of Constantinople and the destruction of the Turkish state. The bloodshed will be so large-scale that three-year-old bulls will “swim” in a sea of blood. Schemamonk said the following verbatim about these events:

“During the battle, the Mosque of Omar will be destroyed, which will be the beginning of the restoration of Solomon’s Temple. China's army of two hundred million will cross the Euphrates and come to Jerusalem."

Western European countries will also take part in the war, but they will oppose Russia. Constantinople will be handed over to the rightful owner of this city - Greece, although it will not fight.

The events of recent times indicate that the elder’s words are already coming true. The Russian Federation is already fighting the Islamic State in Syria. Türkiye is also indirectly present in this conflict. The situation in this country is quite tense and it is unclear what it will lead to, especially after the strengthening of the power of leader R. Erdogan after the attempted military coup. Western countries, Israel and the United States also do not remain aloof from the flaring fire of war. Everything suggests that the Third World War may begin in this region. Soon a new redistribution of the world will begin.

What awaits Russia in the future?

The Athonite elder predicted that Russia would become the leader in the defense of Orthodoxy and the Russian-speaking population. He is echoed by other elders of Athos, who claimed the beginning of a new era. In this new time, a new leader must appear on the territory of the Russian Federation, sent by God to save the world from destruction.

Other predictors of the world also spoke about the appearance of the savior of mankind, such as:

  • Nostradamus;
  • Edgar Cayce;
  • Vanga.

Approximately identical forecasts regarding the emergence of a new world leader can be explained quite simply. To obtain the necessary information, the media use various practices:

  1. prayer;
  2. meditation;
  3. immersion in trance.

Thus, a slowdown in human brain oscillations is achieved, and he gains access to the Earth’s Noosphere. In a state of altered consciousness, various information comes to him from the information field depending on the request.

It is also worth noting that almost all the Athonite elders, speaking about the new leader, mentioned joint prayer and repentance. That is, we all must admit to the collective unconscious (God) that we are not able to find a worthy leader and ask him to be revealed from above. It is necessary that a psychologically significant image understand our request and give the new ruler the strength to restore order throughout the world.

Athonite elders about Ukraine

At one time, Paisius of Athos spoke about the confrontation between two fraternal peoples. He also mentioned attacks in Ukraine on the Russian Orthodox Church.

Many monks from Mount Athos also predicted the development of events in Ukraine. They warned this country about the dangers of its choice. So Elder Parfeniy did not stop talking about the insincerity of the European Union. He argued that Ukraine would plunge into crisis and the situation would be much worse than in Greece. The hardworking and sincere Ukrainian people are alien to the sins of Sodom, which are legalized in Europe.

Elder Tikhon, who lived in the Trinity Monastery fifty years ago, predicted a conflict in Ukraine. The cause of the war, in his opinion, will be overseas forces. Those who unleashed the bloodshed in Ukraine will ultimately be the losers. Soon there will be a renewal of power in Russia and the conflict in Donbass will end quickly.

The Greek elders are confident that Ukraine will cope with all problems and get out of this situation if it builds its future together with its Slavic brothers - the Russian and Belarusian peoples.

You and I will learn about what happened from books or history lessons. But future events that arouse constant interest among the public are covered with an invisible veil. Not everyone is able to break through it. Only a few clairvoyants have the opportunity to spy on the main trends of the future. Paisiy Svyatogorets is rightfully considered one of the most perspicacious. His prophecies are popular, interpreted and retold by many. There is a lot of incomprehensible and strange things in the words of the Elder. Although time puts everything in its place. The incredible prophecies of Paisius the Svyatogorets about Russia have already come true to some extent. Consequently, there is reason to expect the further embodiment of the wonderful path that the Elder dedicated to this Great Power. Let's take a closer look at what Paisiy Svyatogorets was talking about, whose prophecies became so popular in connection with Turkey's aggressive step towards the Russian military aircraft.

Prophecy of Paisius the Holy Mountain about war

It should be noted that the Elder is revered both in his homeland - in Greece and in other countries. He is not particularly trusted in Turkey. And there is a reason for this. The Turks do not like the prophecies of Paisius the Holy Mountain about the Third World War. The Elder said that hostilities would take place in the Middle East. By the way, we see this on TV and computer screens. But the characters in this bloody massacre are not the same yet. According to the Elder, two hundred million Chinese must take part in the battles. They will come when the Euphrates becomes shallow. The saint pointed out to his listeners that everyone could see the signs of the impending Armageddon. He called for reflection. After all, such a powerful river as the Euphrates cannot dehydrate itself. A miracle of the Lord will not happen. All people will accomplish with their own hands. Construction work in the upper reaches of the river will indicate that the final battle is near. They will block it with a dam and the waters will subside. Then the army will be able to overcome the obstacle without a bridge. The Chinese will reach Jerusalem and take it. And in the Turkish expanses, Russians and Europeans will meet in battle. Isn’t it true that the provocation in which the Russian Aerospace Forces pilots died looks like the beginning of these tragic events, a kind of starting point before the start of a terrible war?

Prophecies of Paisius the Holy Mountain about Russia

The Elder often told pilgrims that on Mount Athos they pray for Rus', asking the Lord for the revival of the people of this country. People have gone through a lot of troubles. And they are connected not only with the loss of material things. The people are like the crew of a ship thrown ashore by the waves. People panic, having lost faith in God, they do not know where to expect help, as Elder Paisiy the Svyatogorets saw. His prophecies about Russia are connected with the awareness of believers living in the country of their divine destiny. They will remember what it means to be true Orthodox, kind to the world and fierce with their enemies. From this moment the objection of the Great Power will begin. And the whole world will rejoice, and the enemies will be terrified. But until this moment, Christians will have to endure many more terrible things. They will be persecuted in all lands. The Jews will seize power and begin to destroy Orthodoxy. Their goal will be to create a world in which there is no compassion and true faith, said Elder Paisius the Svyatogorets. He rarely made prophecies about Russia. But he was sure that the Lord would not abandon these people. He will always help him, wait until people turn to faith and understand that their strength lies in it. And then Rus' will stand up for its Orthodox brothers - the Greeks. At this moment, Turkey will go to war against the Elder’s homeland. The moment of the great battle will come. The servants of the Antichrist will try with all their might to prevent the reunification of the Orthodox, their strengthening, but nothing will come of it. The Lord will help his beloved children overcome the darkness.

About the collapse of the USSR

Pilgrims and guests were surprised by some of the Elder’s statements. So, a certain gentleman tried to find out what would happen to the USSR. And this happened during the time of Brezhnev. The country was strong and looked confidently into the future. However, the Elder told this gentleman that the Union would soon disintegrate. To the surprised objection, he replied in the sense that you will see for yourself. And this gentleman, it should be noted, was no longer a young man at that time. And so it happened. The elder said that such a tragic event for the people is only a test before the great battle, in which the Russians (meaning people of all nationalities) must take part. But until they return to the Orthodox faith, they have no chance of victory.

About Constantinople

Now, as you know, this formerly Greek city is called Istanbul and is the capital of Turkey. The prophecies of Cosmas of Aetolia and Paisius of the Holy Mountain speak about him. Or rather, the first expressed his thoughts on the return of the city to the Greek banner, and the second deciphered them. Cosmas of Aitolia said that the time would come when there would be a big war. Then “the mountains will save many souls.” The Elder deciphered these words with the following advice: when the ships enter the Mediterranean Sea, all women and children need to leave the city. This will mean imminent bloodshed. And the military should indicate exactly where the city is located. The Greeks will not have time to take part in the battle. But they will enter Constantinople as winners. Such circumstances will arise in world politics that the Russians will not be able to keep the city for themselves, they will decide that it is better to transfer it to other hands. Here they will remember the Greeks. And the glorious city will return again under its native banners. Turkey is waiting for collapse. According to the Elder, the fate of this people is unenviable. A third of the Turks will become Orthodox, the rest will die or move to Mesopotamia. There will no longer be such a state on the map. This is the prophecy of Paisius the Holy Mountain. He said about the last times that the signs will be clear, we will all see them. As the Mosque of Omar is destroyed, one should prepare for great battles. It stands on the site where Solomon's Temple once stood. The Jewish people dream of reviving it, because only it is the real House of the Lord for them. And for this it is necessary to wipe the mosque off the face of the earth. This is what the followers of the Antichrist will do. The destruction of the Omar Mosque is a sign of the end times.

About spiritual and material

Many prophecies of Saint Paisius the Holy Mountain concerned the lives of ordinary people. He said that you need to trust the Lord sacredly, despite any trials. And the Elder saw many more of them ahead of the Orthodox. In difficult times, when the Antichrist almost dominates the world, only faith will save people. Demons will not be able to overcome this last outpost of light in souls. To a modern person these words may seem strange, and the power of faith may seem insignificant, however, he will be mistaken. When you read the prophecy of Paisius the Holy Mountain about the last times, remember that no one will escape the answer. Everyone will have to choose which side to fight on. Those who support the forces of darkness will bow before the Golden Calf and fall. The light in the souls of these people will fade, and the flames of Hell will consume them. But nothing will affect believers. They are under the protection of the Lord and are his warriors. Every person will have to choose. Neutrality, as they say now, cannot be maintained. The final battle will be a confrontation between the flames of souls standing on opposite sides of good and evil. The prophecies of Paisius the Holy Mountain about the Antichrist indicate that it will be difficult for people to resist his will. He will use cunning to win hearts. Only real, ardent trust in Jesus Christ, following His commandments, will protect you from the power of the Antichrist.

Revival through trials

People at all times strive for a calm, prosperous life. There is no sin in this. But the fate of humanity is such that only those who will not betray the Lord can enter the Kingdom of God. And everyone will have their own “front”. There is already a war going on in our souls. The Antichrist is trying to win people over to his side. If you think about it, you will see it yourself. We are constantly fed other people's goals, unnatural desires and dreams. Is it possible for a person to resist the “golden calf” when everyone around him considers the possession of wealth to be true happiness? This is how the Antichrist works. He needs to erase thoughts about Orthodoxy and God from human souls. Then he will become the owner of our world. But the earth will be different, cruel and bloodthirsty. Don’t we now see in ISIS (an organization banned in the Russian Federation) signs of a diabolical ideology? Blood flows like a river, people die without trial or investigation. Do those who are the creation of God dream of such a world? But the battle is already underway. It is, we repeat, in the souls of people. Which side will you take?

Is the wealth worth losing your soul?

Nowadays people are looking for the prophecies of Paisius the Holy Mountain about money. Do they think that the Elder predicted exchange rates? Of course not. He looked deeper at the essence of the world and believed in humanity. He tried to bring light and kindness to people. It is these qualities that are the basis of a new, reborn world. There will be no worship of money. And they themselves will lose the significance that they have today. When the Antichrist is defeated, we will begin to think, dream and act differently. There will be no people left on earth for whom gold will be valuable. In fact, is it the meaning of our existence? They say in its quantity. But this is just a joke. People need to understand that they come into this world to create, to help the Lord improve the planet. And for this you need to look into the soul, see the abilities there. This is exactly how the Elder saw our common future.

About the Russian Tsar

Interestingly, many prophets associated the revival of Russia with God’s anointed. And Elder Paisios said that the king would return. He described his vision of a ship washed ashore. It was Russia. In the hold and on the decks of the frigate, people are panicking, there is fear and lack of hope in their eyes. And then, as the Elder said, people saw that a horseman was rushing towards them straight across the waves. This is an Orthodox king, appointed by the Lord to the people. And under his leadership, the ship returns to the surface of the sea and safely takes the desired course. This is how Paisiy Svyatogorets described the revival of Russia. His prophecies, by the way, echo the thoughts of other clairvoyants. We (or our descendants) will see whether they come true. After all, by all indications, the end of times is near. And you shouldn't be afraid of it. You need to follow the advice of the Elder, trust the Lord and he will protect.

Conclusion

You know, people are often carried away by all kinds of prophecies and predictions. Some criticize them, others firmly believe them. Whether the events described by the Elder will come true apparently depends on those people who live on earth. Is not it? And not the last battle should be expected after reading the comments. The elder said all this with one purpose - to warn people about the machinations of the Antichrist. What everyone needs is not to buy weapons or dig a bomb shelter, but to build the Temple of the Lord in the soul. Paisiy Svyatogorets never tired of warning that believers and only they will be saved! This is precisely the main meaning of his prophecies. Whether Constantinople will fall, whether the Chinese will cross the Euphrates, will be decided by those who will stand next to the Lord against the army of the Antichrist. Is not it?

Prophecy 1:
One doctor asked the Elder what awaits us in the future?
“Only God knows the future, my child.”
— Geronta, will there be big wars?
- What are you asking, child? And you can’t imagine what will happen!

Prophecy 2:
Today, reading prophecies is like reading a newspaper: everything is written so clearly. My thoughts tell me that many events will happen: the Russians will occupy Turkey, Turkey will disappear from the map, because 1/3 of the Turks will become Christians, 1/3 will die and 1/3 will go to Mesopotamia.
The Middle East will become the scene of wars in which the Russians will take part. A lot of blood will be shed, and even the Chinese will cross the Euphrates River, having an army of 200,000,000, and reach Jerusalem.

A characteristic sign that these events are approaching will be the destruction of the Omar Mosque, because... its destruction will mean the beginning of work on the reconstruction of Solomon's temple, which was built on that very spot.
A great war will take place in Constantinople between Russians and Europeans, and a lot of blood will be shed. Greece will not play a leading role in this war, but Constantinople will be given to it, not because the Russians will revere us, but because there is no better solution, and they will agree together with Greece, and difficult circumstances will put pressure on them. The Greek army will not have time to get there before the city will be given to it. The Jews, since they will have the strength and help of the European leadership, will become insolent and show themselves with shamelessness and pride and will try to rule Europe. Then 2/3 of Jews will become Christians.
Unfortunately, today people who have no relation to the Church and with absolutely worldly wisdom are being pushed into theology, who say different things and commit impermissible actions, with the goal of deliberately removing Christians from the faith with their position. The Russians did the same when they wanted to introduce communism in Russia. What were they doing there? After some incorrect priests and theologians joined the party - and were already “at one with them” - they were forced to accuse the Church and often speak against it. So they poisoned the people because they could not recognize the role of these theologians. Then they took one of their priests, who was very fat due to illness, searched for months for some bony guy, put them on one poster and wrote at the bottom: “This is how the Church lives and how the people are in poverty.” They also took a photograph of the patriarch's chambers, covered with carpets, furniture, etc., and placed next to the barracks of one of the beggars (like our gypsies) and said: look at the luxury of the priests and how the Russian citizen vegetates! So they managed to little by little poison the people and “spoil their thoughts.” And after the people devoured each other, they also appeared and, as we know, threw Russia back 500 years and left it dying, killing millions of Russian Christians.
They will plot many intrigues, but through the persecution that follows, Christianity will be completely united. However, not in the way that those who are machinating a worldwide union of churches want, wanting to have one religious leadership at its head. They will unite, because in the current situation there will be a separation of the sheep from the goats. Each sheep will strive to be close to another sheep and then “one flock and one Shepherd” will be realized. Are you getting into it? We see that this is already partly being realized: Christians, you saw, have already begun to feel that they are in an unhealthy climate, and will try to avoid painful situations and flock in thousands to monasteries and churches. You will soon see that there are two parts of people in the city: those who will live a prodigal life far from Christ, and the rest who will flock to vigils and places of worship. The average state, as it is now, can no longer exist.

Prophecy 3:
One day I came down and saw the Elder somewhat embarrassed and upset. He treated me and began to speak:
“Some people came here and began to tell me that there would be a war, and that the Turks would enter Greece, and that they would drive us six miles to Corinth (explaining the prophecy of Cosmas of Aetolia, erroneously, corrupted by their thoughts). Then I took them on and said that the worst enemy for the Hellenes is that when all over the world certain Hellenes like you spread that if war happens, the Turks will drive us to Corinth, because when the war starts, everyone will have the spirit is broken and they themselves will retreat to Corinth. Moreover, even if this were the truth, one cannot talk about it. Especially when it is not true. And I repeat to you again: don’t talk about this anywhere, because you will do much more evil than many Turkish divisions would do.
I told them this, and they forced me to explain, although I never wanted to talk about prophecies, that the six-mile region that Saint Cosmas speaks of is six miles of sea shelf. This is the topic over which we have been squabbling with Turkey in recent years, and it will be the matter over which we will “grab it.” However, they will not enter Hellas: they will advance only these six miles, and then a great disaster will come upon them from the north, as the scriptures say, and “nothing straight will remain.” A third of the Turks will be killed, a third will convert to Christianity, and the rest will go far to Asia. We will not suffer in any way from the Turks. Some unimportant things will be destroyed, and the wrath of God will come upon them.
I heard this from them and was upset. I could not believe that the Greeks themselves, by spreading such things during peace, would provide the Turks with the greatest help.
They also began to tell me that what Saint Cosmas said: “then it will come when two summers and two Paschals come together,” now that the Resurrection (Easter) coincided with the Annunciation - and winter passed like summer - means that the Turks will attack Hellas (Greece).
We have all become prophets, my father, and we explain things with our minds as we want. And here I was forced to tell them that Saint Cosmas, when he said: “then he will come,” did not mean the Turks. I understood that then freedom would come for the inhabitants of Northern Epirus. And indeed, this year the borders were opened after so many years, and they can, in some way, freely communicate with their fatherland.
My father, I have seen that these people cause great harm by explaining things with their poor minds. And what’s more, they convey their corrupted thoughts to others.

Prophecy 4:
So “nobly” they will divide Turkey into parts
The brother asked the Elder about the events in Serbia, and he, among other things, said:
— Europeans are now making, for the sake of the Turks, independent areas where Muslims live (Bosnia and Herzegovina). I see, however, that Turkey will be divided in a noble way: the Kurds and Armenians will rebel, and the Europeans will demand that these peoples be made independent. They will then say to Turkey: we did you a favor there, now the Kurds and Armenians should gain independence in a similar way. This is how Turkey will be “nobly” divided into parts.
Saint Arsenios in Faras told believers that they would lose their fatherland, but would soon receive it again.

Prophecy 5:
In the summer of 1987, I asked the Elder about the future world war, the one called “Armageddon” and described in the Scriptures.
With fatherly interest, he told me various information. And he even wanted to discover certain signs that would convince us that we are really in the generation of Armageddon. So he said:
“When you hear that the Turks are blocking the waters of the Euphrates in the upper reaches with a dam and using them for irrigation, then know that we have already entered into the preparation of that great war and thus the way is being prepared for a two hundred million army from the rising of the sun, as Revelation says.
Among the preparations is this: the Euphrates River must dry up so that a large army can pass through. Although - the Elder smiled at this place - if two hundred million Chinese, when they arrive there, drink one cup of water, they will drain the Euphrates!
I was told that China's army currently numbers two hundred million, i.e. that specific number that St. John writes about in Revelation. The Chinese are even preparing a road, which they call the “miracle of the era”: its width is such that thousands of soldiers lined up in a line can easily pass along it. And by this time they had already brought it to the borders of India.
However, it requires great attention and an enlightened, pure mind in order for us to be able to discern the signs of the times, because, in some ways, it happens that those who do not care about the purification of hearts cannot discern them, and, as a result, , is easily mistaken. Suppose someone knows that in order for an army of millions to pass through, the Euphrates River must dry up. However, if one expects this to happen in a miraculous way, i.e. Suppose a large crack opens and all the water disappears, then such a person will be in error, for he did not take care to “enter the spirit” of the Scriptures through purity of heart. Something similar happened with Chernobyl: in Revelation, St. John the Theologian reports that he saw a star falling from the sky and striking the waters and people. Those, however, who expect a star to fall from the sky have long been deluded and will never understand that this has already happened. Chernobyl in Russia means “Wormwood” and we see that enormous damage has been caused, and it will be even greater as time goes on...”

Prophecy 6:
During the procession of the Holy Lady in 1992, the umbrella over the icon of Panagia was held by an ensign from Ioannina. As we walked, I was on his right, and on his left was the Elder, who at some point said to the officer:
- Come on, pray well, so that you will be a standard bearer in the City (Constantinople) when we enter.
And turning to me he said:
- Did you hear what I said?
- Yes, Geronta, I heard. Amen. - I answered him.
Then he smiled and said his characteristic:
- A! (Okay, exactly!).
A day later I went down to his cell and asked about the City. And he said:
“We will take back Constantinople, but not us.” We, due to the fact that the majority of our youth have fallen, are not capable of this. However, God will arrange it so that others will take the City and give it to us as a solution to their problem.

Prophecy 7:
A group of small disciples from Athonias descended to the Elder. They were occupied with one topic: they heard as if the Elder had told some that we would take Constantinople. And they wanted to hear it themselves from his lips and especially ask whether they would live at that time. So, they talked among themselves on the way that someone should ask the Elder about this topic. So they came and sat down with him, but no one dared to ask such a question. They stood up, took the blessing and headed towards the path. The elder, seeing them off, said smiling:
“And know this: we will take Constantinople and you too will live at that time!”
The disciples were struck like thunder by what he said, and they were amazed at the grace that he had, and that he was informed about everything by it, and also that all these terrible things would happen in their generation.

Prophecy 8:
Mr. D.K. visited the Elder. At that time, the USSR was very strong in all respects and no one could even imagine that it could collapse - it was still under Brezhnev’s rule.
The elder, by the way, told him:
- You will see that the USSR will soon collapse.
Mr. D. objected:
- But such strong power, Geronta, who can destroy it? And they don’t dare touch his nail.
- You'll see!
The elder predicted that the USSR would collapse, and that Mr. D. would still be alive and see this (despite the fact that he was already old).
And the Elder continued:
- Know that Türkiye will also fall apart. There will be a war for two and a half years. We will be winners because we are Orthodox.
- Geronta, will we suffer damage in the war?
- Eh, at most, they will occupy one or two islands, and Constantinople will be given to us. You'll see, you'll see!

Prophecy 9:
One afternoon a group of pilgrims arrived at the Elder’s cell. Having taken the blessing, they sat down in the outer archondarik. The elder with good nature brought them traditional Turkish delight, refreshing water and fresh cherry plum, which previous pilgrims had brought to him. He sat down next to him and began a conversation:
Elder: How do they live in the world?
Dimitri: In general, Geronta, the media spreads evil and is aimed at this. Moreover, small children are also molested.
Elder: What does the law say? Are you filing lawsuits?
Dimitri: We are trying, Geronta, to do something, but they do not accept words.
Elder: You always have a clear conscience because you are doing your duty. God will arrange the rest.
Dimitri: Can you tell us, Geronta, how we should behave in this evil world? So... in general.
Elder: Reasoning is needed. Do you have a confessor?
Dimitri: Yes, Geronta.
Elder: Consult with your confessor, because sometimes we cannot say “yes” or “no,” so reasoning is required.
Here the Elder stood up and left them alone, and they, seizing an opportune moment, agreed to ask the Elder to tell him about Constantinople. Soon the Elder returned and, to the amazement of everyone, before they could ask anything - showing that his spiritual “radar” had picked up their thoughts - he told them:
Elder: What do you say, will we take the City?
They were speechless and did not say anything.
Elder: Tell me, will we take the City?
The group says nothing in amazement.
Elder(jokingly): Braggarts...
Theodore: Let's take Geronta.
Elder: Glory to You, God. (He crosses himself to the east and looks towards the City.)
Dimitri: If God bless, Geront, we will take him.
Elder: Yes, it is from God! Let's take him! Only we won’t take it, but they will give it to us. Those who take it from the Turks will give it to us as a solution, because... will believe that this is beneficial to them.
Dimitri: Geronta, how long will such evil continue?
Elder: Maybe, maybe! However, we will take exams.
Dimitri: Will there be proper leadership?
Elder: God will arrange it. In this war, everyone will emerge victorious. The Greek army will be spectators. No one will return victorious. The arena will be Palestine, their grave will be the Dead Sea. This will be in the first half time. But there will also be a second half-time: after these events, a person will come to hopelessness, and then everyone will study the Gospel and the Scriptures. Christ will have pity on the world and show a sign for faith. Then you will look for an unbeliever.
Dimitri: Geront's troparion to the prophet Elijah says that he is “the second forerunner of the coming of Christ.” He, as we know, did not die, just like Enoch. Will the prophet Elijah come to earth?
Elder(smiling): Prophet Elijah sharpens and prepares his knife! And even before that he will begin with the patriarchs, rulers, priests and monks!
Nikolay: And worldly ones.
Elder: You have ignorance, we have sins. Doesn’t the prayer at the Divine Liturgy say: “About our sins and about human ignorance”? The Prophet Elijah sharpens his knife: however, a lot of attention is needed, because the Fathers speak differently about some things, and interpret the world differently, as, say, about the six miles, which Saint Cosmas of Aetolia reports. (The Turks will leave, but they will come again and reach six miles. In the end they will be driven out to the Red Apple Tree (Kokkinh Mhlia). Of the Turks, 1/3 will die, the other 1/3 will be baptized and the last 1/3 will go to the Red Apple Tree.) No one can explain this.
There are six miles in Langadas, Kilnis, in Thrace, in Corinth, but no one knows that those he speaks of are six miles of territorial waters. Don't you read from the Prophets: Joel, Zechariah, Ezekiel, Daniel? It's all said there. For seven years in Palestine they will burn not wood, but sticks, but how do you know the difference between sticks and firewood! You now have heaters in your houses (smiling), while here I burn wood in the stove and know what’s what.
(We are talking about the prophecy of the prophet Ezekiel - 39, 9-10: “Then the inhabitants of the cities of Israel will come out and make fire and burn weapons, shields and armor, bows and arrows, and maces and spears; they will burn them for seven years. And They will not carry wood from the field, nor cut down from the forests, but they will burn only weapons; they will rob their robbers, and rob their extortioners, says the Lord God.”
Christ: Jews...
Elder: One pious Jordanian told me that the Jews dug a tunnel many meters deep under the Omar Mosque, and they want to destroy the mosque in order to build the Temple of Solomon, because... then, they say, the Messiah will come, i.e. Antichrist. Then the Arabians will say to the Christians: Are you not saying, Christians, that the Messiah has already come? What are they saying here now, the Jews?

The elder, having brought refreshments to the newly approaching pilgrims, asked one of them:
Elder: Will we take the City? What do you say?
Christ: I will go to Northern Epirus.
Elder: Let's take the City, let's take Northern Epirus with all of us!
Christ: Seven and I are eight!
Elder: Well done! And I will transfer the relics of Saint Cosmas of Aetolia, they are heavy! What can I say, guys, our books (church books) write and talk about all this, but who reads them? People have no idea. Sleeping in bast shoes!
Dimitri: Are these, Geronta, signs of the times?
Elder: You don’t see the signs, the signs of the times... You must be, excuse me, a sheep not to understand what is happening... Many of the Holy Fathers prayed in order to live in our time, for it is a confessional time. We sleep in bast shoes. Soon they will ask Christians, as they used to ask for their political beliefs.
Nikolay: Will they open a case against us, Geronta?
Elder: Ah, bravo! Affairs.
Dimitri: Geronta, will Greece suffer?
Elder: Greece has experienced many thunderstorms, but there will be more! Greece will not suffer in any way, for God loves her. In Asia Minor we had many relics. On every inch of land you will find holy relics. Let's take Hagia Sophia and the gates will open. No one knows this gate... we'll see what happens, though? What will the minarets become later?
Nikolay: We will destroy them.
Theodore: Let's make them bell towers.
Elder(smiling): No, they will become pillars for the pillars, and the rosary will hang down to the bottom!
Dimitri: Will the leaders of this war be Jews?
Elder: Yes, there will be Jews. The Pope will also help a lot, because all the children of the devil will be considered his (i.e. the Pope) and he will instruct them to follow the Antichrist. That’s why Saint Cosmas said: “Curse the Pope, because... he will be the cause.” The saint meant the Pope of that particular time, who would help install the Antichrist. Other Popes will seem good in comparison.
After hearing this for the first time and the amazing thing that the Elder’s love showed them, the whole group remained silent and excited for some time. The elder stood up, blessed them and showed them the way so that they would not get lost and get to the place.
They left the Elder’s cell shocked, thinking about what God had in store for the future. They also thought that such apocalyptic events should never be forgotten. The names of the group are real, and the brothers asked your love to pray for them, that they may find favor before God. Amen.

Brief information about the life of Elder Paisius
Elder Paisios of Athos (in the world Arsenios Eznepidis) was born in Pharas of Cappadocia, in Asia Minor, on July 25, 1924, on the day of St. Anna, from pious parents. He was baptized on August 7, 1924 by Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia, who gave him his name at baptism. As a child, I really wanted to become a monk. Before serving in the army, he worked as a carpenter, just as our Lord did when he was on earth. In 1945 he was drafted into the army and served as a radio operator. In 1949, he finished his service and immediately went to the Holy Mountain. In 1950 he came to the Esphigmen monastery. There in 1954 he received a ryassophore with the name Averky. In the same year, he went to the sacred monastery of Philotheus, where his uncle was a monk. In 1956, he was tonsured into the minor schema with the name Paisios in honor of Metropolitan Paisios II of Caesarea, with whom they were compatriots (he also came from Farasa of Cappadocia). In 1958, having received a notice from God, he retired from Athos to the sacred monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Stomio Konitskaya. There, with the help of God's grace, he helped thousands of souls and from there in 1962 he went to Sinai for some spiritual reasons. In Sinai he lived in the cell of Saints Galaktion and Epistimia. He returned to the Holy Mountain in 1964 and settled in the Iveron monastery, in the cell of the holy Archangels. In 1966 he fell ill and was treated for many months in the hospital, where most of his lungs were taken away. While at the monastery, Stavronikita was close to the famous confessor Father Tikhon, who came from Russia and had many spiritual gifts. The elder served him with great self-sacrifice, offering all the help that was required. Elder Paisiy settled at the request of Father Tikhon (after his death) in his cell of the Holy Cross, where he lived until 1979. After that, he came to the sacred monastery of Kutlumush and settled in the cell of Panaguda. In Panaguda, the Elder helped thousands of souls. All day, from sunrise to sunset, he advised, consoled, resolved problems, banished all embarrassment and filled souls with faith, hope and love for God. He suffered greatly from various illnesses, which he endured with the greatest patience and courage. On October 22, old style (November 5, new style), 1993, I left the Holy Mountain for the last time and went to the hesychastirium of St. John the Theologian in Suroti to attend, as usual, the vigil of the feast of St. Arsenius, which is venerated on November 10. Due to illness, he was forced to stay there, and on Tuesday, July 12, 1994, at 11:00 am, the Elder gave up his venerable soul quietly and humbly to the Lord, Whom he loved so much and Whom he served from his youth. He was buried in the monastery of St. John the Theologian in Suroti Thessalonica. He left a commandment: not to remove his relics from the ground until the Second Coming.

Paisiy Svyatogorets was born on July 25, 1924, in the village of Farasy, in a large family. His father, Prodromos Eznepidis, was a man of faith. In everyday life, he was engaged in peasant activities and iron smelting. By character, Prodromos was distinguished by courage, patriotism and justice. Paisios's mother, Eulogia, a deeply religious, hardworking woman, came from the Frangopoulos family and was related to the now famous Arsenios of Cappadocia.

At Baptism, the parents wanted to name their son in honor of his grandfather, but the Monk Arseny, having seen his future life and wanting to give him his blessing, insisted on the name Arseny.

Due to the oppression of Orthodox Christians by Turkish Muslims and due to the population exchange between Turkey and Greece, the family of Arseny (Paisia), together with fellow tribesmen, was forced to emigrate. Upon arrival in Greece, the settlers huddled for some time in the port of Piraeus, then in the fortress of the island of Kerkyra. The Monk Arseny died and was buried here. Finally, the refugees reached the city of Konitsa, where they settled.

From childhood, Arseny (Paisy) dreamed of becoming a monk, became involved in prayer, and learned humility and abstinence. His parents often told him about the Monk Arseny, whose name he bore from Baptism, and whom Arseny himself later set as an example.

Having learned to read and write, Arseny often read the Holy Scriptures and the Lives of the Saints. They say that sometimes, returning from school, he immediately took up these sacred benefits, forgetting about food. It happened that his older brother, seeing Arseny’s excessive, as it seemed to him, enthusiasm, hid books, but Arseny showed amazing persistence: it got to the point that he ran away to read in the forest. Even then he tried to use the experience of the saints in his practice.

He finished elementary school well, but did not study further; there was no gymnasium in his village. Imitating Christ, who, as is well known, was brought up in a carpenter’s house, Arseny began to learn the carpenter’s craft. At one time he worked with a mentor, and later organized his own carpentry workshop. In addition to household items, he made things for church use and coffins. For the latter, he did not take payment, expressing his compassion and imbued with the pain of heavy losses.

They claim that at the age of fifteen, Arseny was awarded the miraculous appearance of the Savior, which further confirmed him in zeal for the Lord and piety. Soon he turned to the diocesan administration with a request to enter monasticism, but the representative who spoke with him replied that he needed to grow up.

During the Civil War, the communists imprisoned Arseny, but later, having sorted it out, they released him. Due to his brothers' participation in the war, Arseny was forced to shoulder the burden of peasant work, becoming an assistant and support for his mother. The thought of entering monasticism had to be put aside.

Military service

In 1945, Arseny was drafted into the Army and received the military specialty of a radio operator. The unit in which the future Svyatogorets served took part in the hostilities. Arseny more than once had to experience mortal danger and difficulties, but he did not lose heart, but trusted in God. And God did not leave him.

One day at the shooting range, Arseny witnessed an extraordinary glow, invisible to others. It came from the ravine. Later he found out: convicts were shot at that place, among whom there were probably innocent people. By the providence of God, Arseny was spared from participating in these executions.

Life on Athos

In 1950, after returning from service and a short stay in Konitsa, Arseny went to the Holy Mountain. He wanted to find an elder who would take him into obedience. However, the search did not lead to the desired result. In addition, Arseny received news from his father about the difficulties that had arisen. And he decided to go home.

Returning from Athos, Arseny took up carpentry. From the money he earned, he gave to his relatives and donated to the poor. I made windows and doors for someone free of charge. Despite his professional activity, which required strength, Arseny fasted, indulged in prayers and bows at night, and slept right on the floor.

In March 1953, following his calling, Arseny made the final decision to leave the bustle of the world and devote his life to monastic feat. Having distributed his savings to the poor, he again went to Athos. At first, his choice was the Konstamonit monastery, but by the time he arrived at the site, a storm had broken out on the southern coast. Recognizing this as the action of God's Providence, he boarded a ship, the route of which ran along the northern side, and went to the Esphigmen monastery. The monastery was distinguished by strict order. Here there was someone to learn from and from whom to adopt spiritual experience.

At first, Arseny performed obedience in the refectory and bakery, then in the carpentry. Another area of responsibility was two churches located outside the monastery. There he kept the place clean and lit the lamps.

No matter how difficult obedience was, at the end of the working day, at night, Arseny prayed and praised the Creator. Gradually, under the control of the abbot, he added others to some of his exploits. I tried not to sit down in church; in winter, in my cell, I did without a stove, and on the street - without warm clothes. Slept on bricks or stone slabs.

Like many famous ascetics, Arseny did not escape the devil’s attacks and intrigues. At one time, the inventor of sin embarrassed him by warming up his memories and worries about his relatives, showing them in his dreams either sick or dead. Then he appeared to Arseny in a sensual form, wanting to frighten him, he talked to him. With God's help, Arseny overcame his cunning, avoided snares and traps.

The beginning of the monastic path

On March 27, 1954, Arseny, having passed the tests, was tonsured a monk. Since then he began to bear the name “Averky”.

One day, while in the altar and watching the priest performing the Proskomedia, he saw the Lamb on the paten trembling like a lamb.

Another time, at night, while praying, he felt as if something was descending on him from above and washing him. Averky was filled with tears of joy. It was an act of grace.

In obedience to the elder

Over time, the desire for a silent, solitary life matured in Averkia more and more. And so, one day he asked for a blessing to leave the monastery. Having then gone to the Iversky Monastery, he kissed the icon of the Mother of God and felt some special tenderness. From this Averky concluded that his departure corresponded to God’s will.

Having heard a lot about the virtues of Elder Hieromonk Kirill, who labored in the Kultumush monastery, Averky came to him and asked to become a novice. The elder agreed. In addition to the virtues common to Christians, he possessed the gift of clairvoyance and the gift of casting out demons. Averky treated him with deep respect and thought of staying with him forever. But the devil began to plot new intrigues.

At some point, despite the fact that Averky left the monastery not out of personal arbitrariness, but with the blessing of the abbot, the antiprosop of the monastery demanded his return. The monastery needed him as a good carpenter, and the antiprosop used a threat: if Averky did not return, he would be expelled from the Holy Mountain.

Entering the Philotheus Monastery

At that time, Averky’s distant relative, Hieromonk Simeon, was working in the special monastery of Philotheus. At one time he knew the Monk Arsenios of Cappadocia. With this in mind, Elder Kirill advised Averky to move to this monastery and stand under the protection of Father Simeon, which was done.

According to archival evidence, Averky entered it on March 12, 1956. While asceticizing in Philotheus, he had the opportunity to visit Elder Cyril and receive from him soul-searching explanations on pressing issues. It happened that the elder, having foreseen in advance the time of Averky’s arrival and the content of the topic that interested him, instead of a verbal answer, pointed to a fragment he had already noted in the book.

In the monastery, Philotheus Averky had the obedience of a refectory steward and a cellarer. He was then appointed as a foreman in the carpentry department. In addition, he worked in a bakery. One day, seeing one of the elders locking up firewood, Averky was saddened and asked him not to do this again, saying that he himself was ready to carry firewood for him and for the other brothers, as long as no one took someone else’s. He traditionally did not heat his cell.

One day the devil wanted to catch Averky through pride, to which he, realizing the satanic trick, immediately lit a candle and began to pray. Then, confessing, he told his confessor about what had happened. After a conversation with his confessor, he carefully analyzed his thoughts and realized that sometimes he really shied away from thinking about the significance of his deeds.

From time to time the devil tried to instill in him blasphemous thoughts about the saints. And once, during the Divine Liturgy, he appeared to him in the form of a monster with a dog’s head, and, annoyed that Averky was then singing “Holy God,” he shook his filthy paw at him.

By the summer of 1956, Averky’s health had deteriorated and the monastery elders sent him to Konitsa for treatment. Having reached the place, he did not want to live in his parents' house, due to his strict and attentive attitude to the monastic vow he had taken, and stayed in the church of St. Barbara. Soon, at the invitation of an old friend, he moved into her house. The attending physician visited him periodically, and his own sister came to give injections. Upon completion of the course of treatment, Averky returned to Filofey.

On March 3, 1957, Averky was tonsured into the mantle. At the same time he received a new name “Paisius”, in honor of Paisius II, Metropolitan of Caesarea.

During his stay in Philotheus, Paisios thought a lot about silence. But all attempts to retire into the desert were unsuccessful.

One day he agreed with the boatman that he would transport him to a deserted island, but the boatman did not appear at the appointed time. Another time, Paisius intended to become Elder Peter’s novice, but the elder soon died.

And one day he agreed with the Philotheevsky monk, Father F., to go to Katunaki for the sake of silence. They were both stopped by God's intervention. Father F. had a dream: they were running along the roof of the monastery, but before they had to jump, the Wife, dressed in black, held them by their clothes, saying that there was an abyss below, and if they jumped, they would break. A special revelation was sent down to Paisius. When he was in his cell and praying, his legs and arms suddenly gave out. Some invisible force shackled him so that he could not move at all. Having remained in this state for about two hours, he suddenly saw Katunaki, and on the other side - the Stomion monastery in Konitsa. When he directed his gaze towards Katunaki, he heard the voice of the Most Holy Theotokos, forbidding him to go to Katunaki and commanding him to go to the Stomion Monastery. When Paisius noticed that he asked for desert, and She was sending him into the world, he again heard that he had to go to Konitsa. Then he was released from the mysterious bonds, and his heart was filled with grace. When Paisius told his confessor about this, he, advising him not to tell anyone about what had happened, blessed him to leave the Holy Mountain and go to Konitsa.

Stomion Monastery

In 1958, Paisiy, in fulfillment of the Divine will, found himself in the burnt Stomion monastery. Paisiy had neither the funds nor the materials necessary to restore the monastery. Christians were delighted at the appearance of the ascetic and were ready to provide him with all possible help.

The Bishop blessed Father Paisius to travel around the surrounding villages with the relics of the saints and collect donations. Some people donated a plate of wheat, but Paisius did not save it for sale, but gave it to the priests so that they would distribute it to the needy.

Through the intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, people were found who contributed to the restoration of the monastery with funds, construction and finishing materials, transport, and personal labor.

In addition to construction work, Paisiy put a lot of effort into the moral education of the population, weaning them off the riotous feasts and dances that used to take place near the monastery. They say that to the right of the entrance he dug a grave and erected a cross over it, and then lit a lamp there and burned incense.

At some time, sectarians - evangelists - became more active in Konitsa. They propagated their faith so skillfully that the number of their followers grew steadily. In response, Paisius drew up a written denunciation and hung it on the monastery doors. In addition, he repeatedly talked with listeners of heretical sermons and, with his zealous admonitions, diverted them from the danger of joining the sect.

Along with caring for the spiritual and moral condition of people, Father Paisiy showed concern for the material support of the poor. By agreement with the authorities, he installed special charitable piggy banks in different quarters of Konitsa, appointed those responsible for the collection and created a board of trustees to manage the distribution of funds. He sent volunteers to care for the elderly. Renting monastery lands to the poor, he did not demand money for it, but only asked that in the event of a good harvest, they would allocate as much to the monastery as they considered necessary.

Through the efforts of Father Paisius, the relics of St. Arsenios of Cappadocia were transferred to Konitsa. To do this, he traveled to Kerkyra, participated in the discovery of the relics and personally washed them with wine and water.

Unfortunately, not everyone treated Paisius with understanding. Some did not like the fact that he prohibited inappropriate entertainment, while others looked at the monastic property. There were also those who demanded that Paisius be expelled. Then he left for the Holy Mountain, but the residents began to ask him to return. He returned, and in 1961 he went to Mount Athos again, then returned again.

After some time, having entered into correspondence with Archbishop Porfiry of Sinai and receiving a blessing from the bishop to live in Sinai, Paisius moved to Mount Sinai. The year was 1962.

Life of a hermit on Mount Sinai

They say that at first after Paisius arrived on Mount Sinai, there was a severe drought there. When the monastery began to prepare a caravan of camels to go for water, the elder asked not to send it that day. At night he devoted himself to prayer, and it began to rain.

For some time, Father Paisiy participated in carpentry work related to the restoration of icons. Then, having asked for a blessing for a solitary life in the desert, he settled in the cell of Saints Galaktion and Epistimia. Not far from this place there was a small spring. There was little water, but the elder shared it with animals and birds.

On Sundays, and sometimes less often, he visited the monastery: he took communion, helped sing and read, took part in monastic work, and instructed those who turned to him for advice.

The devil did not leave Paisius here either. One day, when he was shaking an old alarm clock, the devil began to instill in him the idea that if he were married, he would shake not the alarm clock, but the child. The elder immediately threw him away.

By 1964, Paisiy's health had deteriorated greatly. No matter how sorry it was to part with his beloved desert, Paisius was forced to return to Athos.

Deterioration of health

Returning to the Holy Mountain, Father Paisius settled in the Iveron monastery. He willingly helped the brethren around him, and whenever possible he indulged in silent solitude, engaged in prayer and contemplation of God.

Meanwhile, the disease progressed. It turned out that the diagnosis made in previous years was incorrect. While Paisius was being treated for tuberculosis, in reality he was suffering from bronchiectasis. In 1966, he underwent surgery to remove almost his entire left lung.

In addition to ascetic deeds, he was engaged in carving. He sold some of the products, providing himself with modest food; I gave away most of it.

When Holy Kinot instructed hieromonks Vasily and Gregory, inhabitants of the Iveron monastery, to transform the life of the Stavronikita monastery, they turned to Paisius for advice. He supported this decision and promised to help. On August 12, 1968, Paisiy moved to the Stavronikitsky Monastery.

On September 10, 1968, Elder Tikhon reposed in the Lord. Before his death, he expressed to Paisius his desire for him to become his successor in his cell. Paisius himself considered this a great blessing. Having provided all possible assistance to the brethren of the Stavronikita monastery, he moved to the kaliva of the Holy Cross.

On February 21, 1971, Paisius was honored with the appearance of St. Arsenios of Cappadocia. At this time, he was reading the handwritten Life of Saint Arsenius, which he had compiled. He affectionately stroked Paisius on the head. Subsequently, the description of the appearance of the Monk Arseny seen in this phenomenon, as well as the drawing written by Paisius, formed the basis of his iconographic image.

In 1972, Paisiy was honored to visit the place of his birth, Farasy. And in 1977, at the invitation of the Orthodox Church in Australia, he visited this country, together with Father Vasily, abbot of the Stavronikita monastery.

It is reported that one day the elder became an eyewitness to the appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ. He saw Him in a blaze of light.

Cell "Panaguda". The last years of the life of Saint Paisius

After staying in the kaliva of the Holy Cross for approximately eleven years, Elder Paisios moved to the cell of “Panaguda”. This cell was less suitable than others for the conditions of a solitary life, but it was more suitable than others for the convenience of pilgrims who sought spiritual support and consolation from the elder. The cell was very dilapidated and needed repairs. Father Paisiy put a lot of diligence into bringing her into proper form.

In 1982, Father Paisius visited Jerusalem. And after Jerusalem he went to Sinai, to the monastery of St. Catherine. After staying there for a short time, he returned to Mount Athos.

Lately the old man had been in pain. He reacted sensitively to the cold and already in September began to heat his cell. Bodily strength was exhausted.

On October 22, 1993, Father Paisius left the territory of the Holy Mountain and went to the Suroti Monastery. He never returned to Mount Athos. In Suroti he became ill and was taken to the hospital. There it was discovered that he had cancer. On February 4, 1994, an operation was performed, then another.

Father Paisius wanted to go to Athos and complete his earthly journey there, but this was prevented by the deterioration of his condition. He decided to stay in Suroti. On July 11, Father Paisius received Holy Communion of Christ. On July 12, 1994, the ascetic’s heart stopped.

On January 13, 2015, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate unanimously decided to canonize Elder Paisius of the Holy Mountain as a saint of the Orthodox Church.
